Pellegrino Joseph “P.J.” Sorice (1980 – 2015)
RHINEBECK—Pellegrino Joseph “P.J.” Sorice of Ancramdale, formerly of Middletown, beloved husband, son and brother, died unexpectedly Friday, January 16, 2015 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. He was 34.
The son of Linda Shurter Sorice and the late Giuseppe Sorice, he was born January 19, 1980 in Middletown.
He grew up in Middletown and at the age of 14 suffered a spinal cord injury that left him wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.
When Mr. Sorice met Jessica Morey, she became his life partner, best friend and champion advocate. They were married August 25, 2007 at Christian Faith Fellowship Family Church.
In addition to his devoted and loving wife, Jessica at home, Mr. Sorice is survived by: his mother, Linda Sorice; one brother, Guiseppe; several aunts, uncles, many cousins and four nephews: Dustin, Darren, Jace and Jaxen.
He was predeceased by his sister, Maria in 2009; his father, Giuseppe in 2010 and his grandparents, Pellegrino and Francesca Sorice.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 21 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday evening. Cremation will be private.
A memorial service will be celebrated Friday, January 23, 2015, 1 p.m. at Faith Bible Chapel of Shekomeko, 222 Silver Mountain Road, Millerton. Pastor William Mayhew will officate. A reception will follow at the chapel.

Virginia Carey Ginocchio (1922 – 2015)
HUDSON—Virginia Carey Ginocchio, 92, of Livingston died Monday, January 12, 2015 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born June 22, 1922 in Delavan, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Frances (Cummings) Delaney.
Before her retirement she was employed in the Control Methods division of IBM of Poughkeepsie. She and her late husband Fay Carey managed the Hermitage in Germantown. After retiring, she lived in Florida for many years.
Mrs. Ginoccho had volunteered for many years at Northern Dutchess Hospital. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Survivors include: her children, Pat Byron of Hampstead, NC, Margaret Carey (Jerry) Bates of OR, and Pam Fix (Gary) of Hudson; her grandchildren, Drew Byron (Brenda) of Elizaville, Christopher G. Byron (Dawn) of Chinquapin, NC, Kristen Fix of Eugene, OR, Amy Fix of Germantown, Dawn Larsen of New Orleans, LA; great-grandchildren, Andrew Garren, Amanda Byron, Heather Byron and Sean Byron, all of Plattsburgh, Christopher M. Byron and Benjamin Byron, both of Chinquapin, NC.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Fay Carey; second husband, Louis Ginocchio and granddaughter, Jill Ann Byron.
There are no calling hours and services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Paul P. Boylan (1918 – 2015)
LIVINGSTON—Paul P. Boylan, 96, of Livingston died January 10, 2015 at the Livingston Hills Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Prior to moving to Livingston Hills, he had resided at Home Sweet Home in Catskill.
He was born April 4, 1918 in Bally James Duff, Ireland.
He served in during World War II in the U.S. Army as a radioman.
For many years until his retirement he was a driver for UPS in Hudson.
He is survived by his many friends at Home Sweet Home and Livingston Hills.

Services were held Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylervillle with full military honors.

James J. Costigan, Jr. (1927 – 2015)
CHATHAM—James J. Costigan, 87, beloved husband of Karen, peacefully passed January 13, 2015, at home under the care of hospice.
Born December 2, 1927 in Brockport, he was the son of the late James, Sr. and Mary (Mae) Costigan.
He earned Bachelor of Science and master’s degrees from the University of Brockport.
Mr. Costigan served in the Army Infantry Division as a corporal during the Korean War and received a United Nations SVC Medal, Combat INF Badge as well as others. He was a past member of the American Legion and VFW.
Mr. Costigan was a lifelong educator and community supporter. He first came to Chatham in 1958 to work as the elementary principal in the Chatham Central School District. During the course of his career he was appointed as assistant supervising principal along with Mary E. Dardess and went on to become the superintendent of schools until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Costigan was also inducted into the Chatham High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his instrumental work in developing the local sports programs and playing facilities. He encouraged the formation of the Booster Club and PTA to help parents have a voice in the school’s activities and continued throughout his life to be an avid sports supporter. Mr. Costigan was also concerned about being an advocate for the improvement of school policy and practices. He fulfilled these efforts by serving on the New York State Council of School District Administrators, Legislative Committee. In addition to his duties at school, Mr. Costigan served on many committees to support and make improvements in the community. Among the committees he served on were: the Salvation Army Empire State Division, Chatham Service Unit; the Youth Advisory Board for the Columbia County Youth Bureau as an executive committee member and on the American Lung Association’s New York State Dutchess-Columbia Branch as an advisory council member.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Karen (Sandvik); children, Cindy Dodge, Kim Costigan and Susan Nelson. Mr. Costigan was the proud grandfather of Cara, Ethan, Jenna and Marisa, and the great-grandfather of JessieJean, Decker and Camila. He was predeceased by his only sibling, Margaret C. Rudman.
A funeral Mass was celebrated January 17 at Saint James Church, Chatham.

Roger J. Edgley, Sr. (1931 – 2015)
ALBANY—Roger J. Edgley, Sr., 83, of Columbiaville died Thursday January 15 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born November 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Francis R. and Mary O’Brien Edgley.
Mr. Edgley was a graduate of Hudson High School and was a veteran of the Korean War, who served in the U.S. Navy. He was a truck driver for Harder’s Express in Claverack and later worked as a technician at the Columbia County transfer stations in Hudson and Kinderhook.
Mr. Edgley was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia L. Hilton Edgley June 29, 2012. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Stuyvesant Falls, the Stuyvesant Falls VFW, Teamsters Local #29, and a life member of the Stockport Fire Department.
Surviving are: his son, Roger “Digger” Edgley of Columbiaville; daughter, Regina and her husband Mark Tellittocci of Lorton, VA; one sister, Kathleen Teoli of West Greenwich, RI.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by: brothers, Francis, Ralph and William and one sister, Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, January 19 at the Church of St. Joseph, 1820 U.S. Route 9, Stuyvesant Falls. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Stuyvesant Falls.

Robert E. Klein, Sr. (1930 – 2015)
CLAVERACK—Robert E. Klein, Sr., 84, of Claverack, formerly of Hudson, died Thursday January 15 at his home.
Born February 5, 1930 in Woodbury, CT, he was the son of the late Alfred C. and Dora G. Galpin.
Mr. Klein was a floor supervisor for the former Rainbow Girls Coat Company in Springfield, MA, for many years. He was a member of the New York Army National Guard in Hudson and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenport.
He is survived by: his son, Robert E., Jr., and (Elizabeth) Klein of Hopewell Junction; daughters, Bonnie L. Johnson of Hudson, Amy J. and (Ronald) Beatty of Claverack; brothers, Richard Klein of Germantown and Elmer Klein of Poughkeepsie; sisters, Dorothy Hoffman of Clifton Park, Shirley Laurange of Chatham, Charlotte Kist of North Carolina, and Margaret Klein of Philmont; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by: one brother, Alfred L. Kline; sisters, Martha Klein and Alice Demarest; granddaughter, Samantha VanAlphen and daughter-in-law, Chrissy Kline.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 21, 11 a.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport with Pastor Ken Coddington officiating. Burial will follow in Mellenville Union Cemetery.
Elizabeth Ritchie Pikun (1921 – 2015)
PHILMONT—Elizabeth Ritchie Pikun of Philmont died Friday. January 17, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Hudson November 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Celia (Redmond) Ritchie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Victor Pikun. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Ardis Pikun Daury of Cohoes and Delray Beach, Florida.
Mrs. Pikun was a homemaker and a very active member of the former Sacred Heart Church in Philmont, a volunteer with the Columbia Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, was employed at the original Stewart’s Shop in Philmont as well as the Philmont Hearth.
She is survived by: her cousins, Ann Marie Keeler, Mary Ann Bogausch, Ellen Kellerhouse, William Ritchie and a number of other relatives and friends including Brian, Dale and Dean Schermerhorn.

Jean Roppolo
POUGHKEEPSIE—Jean C. Roppolo, 69, of Poughkeepsie died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. She was born in Hudson to the late John and Julia Adams.
She was an accountant for Sterling Drug before retiring in 2000.
She graduated in the first class of what is now Ichabod Crane High School. She helped local human societies by growing catnip and giving proceeds to them.
She was predeceased by her one daughter, Karen Rustic.
Mrs. Roppolo is survived by: her husband, Stephen Roppolo and son, John Rustick.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday, January 23, 11 a.m. from Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, Inc., 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer. Friends may call in the funeral home Thursday, January 22 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Dorothy Ball (1926 – 2015)
GHENT—On January 19, 2015, the Lord called Dorothy Ball, 88, formerly of West Copake, to come home from the Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.
She was the oldest of four daughters born to Clinton and Bessie Bainer.
She grew up on her parents’ dairy farm and loved farming so much that she was the first female in her school to be a member of the Future Farmers of America club. In the senior yearbook, her nickname was “Farmer.”
Early in 1944, she met Harry Ball, the DHIA milk tester who came to her parents’ farm. Later that year, just before the start of her senior year, she received her license as a milk tester. In December 1946, a month after Mr. Ball came home from serving in the Army in Okinawa, they were married, and together had four children. Wanting to help her children and other neighborhood children, Mrs. Ball started a 4-H Club called the West Copake Lassies, which she led up into the ‘70s when her last child graduated from high school. She enjoyed being a judge at 4-H events such as demonstration day and the county fair—not only for Columbia County, but for surrounding counties as well.
Mrs. Ball was a very active member of the West Copake Reformed Church which she started attending at the age of 10. She loved singing in the choir, being a part of the Women’s Guild, serving as a deacon and being involved in other church activities. In addition to church and 4-H, Mrs. Ball was an avid bowler, participating in leagues throughout the year.
In 2004, at the age of 78, Mrs. Ball retired from being a milk tester—after 60 years of service. In 2009 she fell at home, fracturing her back, and from then on resided at the Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Although confined to a wheelchair, the residents and staff always saw her with a smile and a cheerful attitude.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harry (1982); her son, Harry, Jr. (1990) and one sister, Geraldine Morrison.
She is survived by: her daughters, Mary Ellen Ziegler of N. Versailles, PA, Patricia Ball of Ankeny, IA, and Cynthia (Harry) Smith of Chatham; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy (Paul Kuhn) Bainer and Ann (Don) McLaughlin; several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22, Copake Falls. The funeral will be held Saturday, January 24 at 10 a.m. at the West Copake Reformed Church, with interment following at the Copake Cemetery.
