Raymond W. Beers, Jr. (1946 – 2018)
ALBANY—Raymond Winfred Beers, Jr., passed away peacefully October 11, 2018 at Albany Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born September 2, 1946 to Raymond W. Beers, Sr., and Dorothy (VanDeusen) Beers. He was a graduate of Chatham High School and attended Columbia-Greene Community College. Mr. Beers worked as a janitor for the Hudson City School District before his retirement in 2004. His passion was the fire service, which he served faithfully in Columbia County as a life-member of Greenport Fire Company #1, Stockport Fire Company and the A.B. Shaw Fire Company.
Mr. Beers is survived by: his wife, Elizabeth (Hendricks) Beers; daughter, Dawn Marie Beers; his brother, Paul Beers; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mark (Susan) Hendricks, Beverly (Andrew) Monthie, Jennifer (David) Waldeck and Becky (Brian) Switalski; three grandchildren, Jean Busta, Makayla Heald and Jason Heald, Jr.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Jenne D. (Mabb) Beers, and his father-in-law, John Mabb and mother-in-law, Elaine Hendricks.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 8 Storm Avenue, Hudson. Interment was at Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery following the funeral service.
Arrangements were with the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Frederick V. Doty (1924 – 2018)
ALBANY—Frederick V. Doty, 93, of Claverack passed away Friday, October 12 at the Stratton Veterans Hospital.
Born November 25, 1924 in Columbiaville, he was the son of Walter and Sophia (Piasta) Doty.
He lived his entire life in Columbia County. His career was a mechanic for Smith’s Tire Service in Hudson. Mr. Doty proudly served in the United States Army, Marines and Naval Reserves. His service was during World War II from 1943 to 1946, which included the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Marine Corp League and Civil Air Patrol. His honors included the Bronze Star, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, and State Conspicuous Service Cross and Star.
Mr. Doty was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, serving as an usher and on the Vestry, he was also a member of the VFW Post #1314.
Left to cherish his memory are: his beloved wife of 72 years, Shirley (Tratnack) Doty; sons, Thomas (Wendy) Doty of CA, Gerald (Laura) Doty of Ghent; daughter, Cindee (Robert) Piccola of Ghent; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Doty was predeceased by his son, Frederick Doty, Jr.; brothers, Walter and Joseph Doty; sisters, Helen Stevenson and Annie Tomasitz.
Funeral services were held Tuesday October 16 from Christ Church Episcopal. Interment was in the Reformed Dutch Church Cemetery in Claverack. Arrangements were with the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

John H. Decker, Jr. (1930 – 2018)
HUDSON—It is with great sadness that the family of John “Jack” Henry Decker, Jr., share the news of his passing October 14, 2018. He passed peacefully in his home in Hudson surrounded by family at the age of 88.
He was born May 15, 1930 to the late John and Violet Decker. Mr. Decker was predeceased by his sister, Ann O’Neil and brother, Stanley Decker.
He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Mary Decker; his children, Brian (Terry) Decker, Erin (Bill) McNary and Melinda Hallenbeck; his grandchildren, Todd (Suany) Leedy, Kristen Decker, Brian (Ashley) Decker, Samantha (Ryan) Maker, Josh Leedy, Tyler Hallenbeck and Zachary Decker; his great-grandchildren, Brian Teator, Natalie Leedy and Jack Leedy; his sister, Jean Salvatore; brother, James Decker; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Decker lived his entire life in Columbia County. He was raised in Philmont and eventually moved to Hudson, where he and his wife raised their children. He enjoyed having his entire family together for dinner on a weekly basis.
Mr. Decker enjoyed working with his hands and continued to work until he was 85. He began working as a teenager at the Kenny Shiver gas station in Philmont. He later joined the army where he served for two years from 1951 to 1953. He spent time stationed in Alabama. When he returned to Hudson he worked for Lorbrook Textile Factory as a mechanic. He could fix any type of machinery. A member of the American Legion, He could often be found there Friday nights calling bingo. He also enjoyed spending weekends at Lebanon Valley watching the races.
Friends and family are invited to call at Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, Wednesday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Services will be held immediately following the calling hours. Burial will be held in Mellenville Union Cemetery.
Joan M. Roberts (1942 – 2018)
COPAKE—Joan Marie Roberts of Copake passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018. She was 76.
Born in Sharon, CT, March 29, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Gladys (McCauley) Hosier.
Mrs. Roberts was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She will be greatly missed by: her sons, Herbert Roberts, Jr., Donald A. Roberts: her daughter, Marilyn and husband Earl Scutt; one brother, Lester Hosier; sisters, Janie and husband Dan Hapeman, Shirley Scutt, Betty Dalzell; her two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her very special niece, Sabrina McWhirt.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Roberts; sisters, Dorothy Roberts and Ruth Gregory.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 16 at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Burial followed in Copake Cemetery.
Alfred H. Alberts (1926 – 2018)
HUDSON—Alfred H. Alberts, 92, of Kinderhook died Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born August 22, 1926 in New York City, he was the son of the late Hans and Anna Alberts.
Mr. Alberts worked his entire life at General Electric.
He is survived by: his wife, Patricia (Cochran) Alberts; a daughter, Amy Boll (Jody) of Kinderhook; a son, Fred Alberts of Manhattan and a sister, Anna Jarvis of Amenia. He was predeceased by his son, William Alberts.
Funeral and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie.
