GREENPORT--Nazaira Stewart of Greenport died suddenly on Monday, March 8, at her home. She was 20.
Born in Albany on May 15, 1989, Nazaira was a senior at Hudson High School. She loved music, dancing and car rides.
She was a faithful communicant of Rock Solid Church in Hudson.
Survivors include her parents, Albert and Brenda (Johnson) Blanks; sisters Imani and Jasmine Wise, both of Toledo, Ohio, Dishenaya Smith of Albany, Sonja Blanks-Perry and husband, Andrew Perry, of E. Greenbush; and one brother, Daryl and (Adrienne) Blanks of Hudson.
Calling hours will be on Friday March 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rock Solid Church, 334 Union Street, Hudson. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. from the church with Rev. Jaron Halsted officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery Hudson.

BENNINGTON, Vt.-- Sylvester C. "Si" Close of Stephentown died Tuesday evening at the Vermont Veterans Home where he has resided since July of 2008. Born in White Creek on July 26, 1925, he was the son of the late George W. and Mary Gates Close.
Mr. Close was the loving husband of the former Vivian M. Jandrow, whom he married on February 5, 1949 in St. Joseph's Church in Stephentown. He had lived in Stephentown since 1949 and was a communicant and past trustee of St. Joseph's Church. Educated in White Creek and Hoosick Falls schools, Mr. Close joined the United States Navy in 1945. He served on the U.S.S. Cebu, which prepared at Pearl Harbor from March 29 to May 11, 1946 for her role supporting the atomic tests of Operation Crossroads at Bikini Atoll (Pikinni Atoll). He was honorably discharged in 1947 at the rank of Fireman Second Class.
He worked at Owl's Garage in Hoosick Falls (where he met his wife) until 1949; at the Walter B. Sykes Store in Stephentown from 1948 until 1966 as a television repairman and clerk; and at General Electric in Pittsfield in the Defense Department as a Developmental Technician making Bradley tanks and fighting vehicles from 1966 until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Close has been a member of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department since 1949: He held many positions, including chief from 1969 to 1976 and Fire Commissioner since 1978. He also served the Town of Stephentown as Town Clerk from 1974 until 1993.
Mr. Close was a member of the New York State and Rensselaer County Fire Chief's Association, past member and vice president of the Rensselaer County Town Clerk's Association, a former Assistant Scout Leader from 1961 to 1967, a member of the Stephentown Republican Club and a member of the Veterans of Stephentown. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Vivian M. Close; two children, Rev. John L. Close of Stephentown and Jean M. (Stephen) Kosche of Shaftsbury, Vt.; a granddaughter, Vanessa L. (Howard Amidon) Kosche; a great-grandson Austin Bortell; and three nieces. Funeral services with full fire departmental and military honors will be on Saturday, March 13 at 10:15 a.m. from the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 Route 43, Stephentown, then at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church (across from the funeral home,) where his son, Rev. John L. Close, will celebrate a Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in New Lebanon. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home for visitation Friday, March 12, from 2 to 4 in the afternoon and 7 to 9 in the evening. Memorial contributions would be appreciated and given to either the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans of Stephentown, St. Joseph's Church Memorial Fund, the activity fund of the Vermont Veterans Home or Meals on Wheels of Rensselaer County in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY 12168.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 21 at 3 p.m. in the Four Chaplains All Faith Memorial Chapel of the Vermont Veterans Home. All are invited.

PITTSFIELD--Willard F. “Bull” Morey, 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Berkshire Medical Center. 
He was born March 12, 1933 in Shekomeko, the son of the late Ernest and Mable (Finkle) Morey.
Mr. Morey was a motor operator for Kimberly Clark Corporation. He retired in 1995 after 35 years of service.
A lifetime member and past 1st asst. chief and former chief of the Ancram Fire Co., he was a fan of tractor pulling and pulled his favorite John Deere tractor in the tractor pulls around the community. He was also an avid deer hunter.
On October 31, 1954 in Ancram he married Imogene B. (Chamer) Morey. She survives him at home.
In addition to his loving wife, Imogene, survivors include three sons, Keith and his wife Anna Morey of Ancramdale; Scott Morey of Canaan, Conn.; Kyle Morey of Ancramdale,; two sisters, Marian Eckert of Canaan, Conn. and Dianne Slater of Ancramdale; four grandchildren, Jessica Sorice, Bryan Morey, Cameron Morey, Candace Morey; and two great grandchildren, Dustin Young and Darren Morey.
A sister, Mildred Smith, died previously.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services are at noon Friday, March 12, from the Faith Bible Chapel of Shekomeko, 222 Silver Mountain Road, Millerton, with Rev. Bill Mayhew officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Ancram Fire Co., P.O. Box 8, Ancram, NY 12502.

Edmund Jasinski, Stockport Town Justice for 21 years |

STOCKPORT--Edmund "Ed" J. Jasinski, 90, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at his residence.
Born August 18, 1919 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Charles and Pauline (Sadowski) Jasinski.
Mr. Jasinski was a machinist at the V & O Press in Greenport until retiring.
He served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and four battle stars.
He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph's in Stottville, the Stottville Fire Co., the Hudson Elks Club, the American Legion Post 184, and the VFW 3220.
Mr. Jasinski was the Stockport Town Justice for 21 years, a councilman for 6 years and part-time highway superintendent for two years.
He was an avid bowler, golfer and Boston Red Sox fan.
Mr. Jasinski was the beloved brother of Charlotte Marsh of Stottville; devoted uncle of John and Joanne Marsh of Greenport and David Graziano of Claverack; loving step-father of Timothy McNamara and his wife, Christina, and their son, Sean, all of N.C.; and special great-uncle of Robert Marsh of Greenport and Amy DaCosta of Stottville.
His wives, Margaret (Ban) Jasinski and Patricia (Ripley) McNamara Jasinski died previously.
Visiting hours are 4:30 to 6:30 Tuesday, March 9, at the Bates & Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Prayers will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Joseph's in Stottville.
Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Stottville Fire Company or to the Church of St. Joseph's, Stottville.
