Memorial Day, Chatham State Police Captain Scott Brown, at the podium, delivers the keynote address at the Memorial Day observance in Chatham Monday morning, May 25. In his remarks, Captain Brown, the newly appointed commander of Zone 1, Troop K in Livingston, spoke of the members of his own family who died while serving in the armed services of the United States. The Rev. Iris Wadell, seated, pastor of the Chatham Payn AME Zion Church, delivered the invocation. The event was sponsored by American Legion Post 42. Post Commander Wayne Fiero is at right. The Chatham High School Band, the Ghent Band, firefighters, and a military color guard marched in the parade to the Chatham Cemetery. The route of the parade was shortened because of road construction in the village. Many other communities in the county and around the nation marked the solemn occasion. Photo by Parry Teasdale.
