Margaret T. Benton, 85, danced at Jacob’s Pillow

GT.BARRINGTON–Margaret T. Benton, 85, of Copake, a local resident since 1950, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Fairview Commons.

She was born on July 9, 1924 in Norwalk, Conn., the daughter of Bayliss and Bertha Sabo.

A housewife, Mrs. Benton also had assisted in the operation of the family business, the Video Cave in their locations in Columbia County. 

In her younger years Mrs. Benton was a professional tap and ballet dancer. She had performed at Jacob’s Pillow and the Sharon Playhouse and other locations. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, singing show tunes and attending all types of performances at Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow and other cultural venues.

Her husband, Edward F. Benton, died in 1986.

Survivors include her children, Edward H. Benton of Malden Bridge, Thomas G. Benton of Claverack and Lisa M. Benton of Hudson.

Friends are invited and may call Friday, August 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake.

A graveside service will  be held Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m. in the Copake Cemetery with the Rev. Juanita Middlebrook officiating.
