GHENT–Sheriff’s Office investigators and deputies charged three people in connection with break-ins in Ghent, West Ghent and Chatham committed last month.
Jerry W. Smart, 35, of Ghent was charged with third degree burglary, a class D felony, and fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony, by Sheriff’s Office Investigator Patrick Logue and Deputy Scott Leggett August 26 at 7:08 p.m.
According to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison Jr., his office recovered $1,200 worth of stolen power equipment taken from a building on Stockport Road August 24.
Arraigned in Claverack Court before Justice Michael Brandon, Mr. Smart was sent to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bail bond. He was scheduled to appear in Ghent Court at a later date.
Also charged was Kalynn Hall, 23, of Dalton, Mass., on one count of third degree grand larceny, a class D felony. An arrest warrant for third degree burglary was issued for Noah Wixom, 28, of Plainsfield, Mass., who is currently an inmate at the Berkshire House of Corrections in Berkshire County, Mass., on unrelated charges.
Ms. Hall and Mr. Wixom allegedly burglarized Hudson River Tractor on Route 203 in Chatham August 5 and Columbia Tractor on Route 9H in West Ghent August 17.
Sheriff’s Office Investigators Logue and Anthony Brahm and Senior Investigator Kevin Skype recovered $13,000 in stolen power equipment belonging to both businesses from five locations in Berkshire County, according to the release from Sheriff Harrison.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were members of the Livingston State Police and the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.
Ms. Hall turned herself in at the Sheriff’s Office August 25. She was arraigned in Claverack Court before Justice Brandon and was released on her own recognizance and directed to return to court September 8.
Mr. Wixom will face extradition once he is released from the Berkshire County lockup. Both Ms. Hall and Mr. Wixom have additional charges pending.
Stockport
Dwight D. Fiero, 32, of Valatie was charged with third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of vehicle and speeding by Stockport Police Officers Nick Hodges and Jerry Rowell, August 27.
Officers pulled Mr. Fiero over after they spotted him driving on Alvord Dock Road at a speed greater than 70 mph in a 30 mph zone. A computer check on Mr. Fiero revealed he was driving with a suspended license. He was released with tickets to appear in Stockport Court September 14.
*Sarah A. Snyder, 25, of Greenport was charged with misdemeanor aggravated harassment by Stockport Police Officers Kristen Pulcher and Jerry Rowell, August 29.
Ms. Snyder allegedly called a Stottville home about 50 to 60 times a day for the last month threatening to beat up the woman who lived there.
Ms. Snyder was issued a ticket to appear in Stockport Court September 14.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- or alcohol-related charges:
*Ellen Sammons, 51, of Taghkanic was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, by Deputy Peter Grzeskow and Sheriff’s Office Sergeants William Zincio and Michael Merante, August 29 at 9:45 p.m.
Ms. Sammons was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by Deputy Grzeskow on Newman Road, Greenport. Deputies say they found her to possess crack cocaine. She was issued a ticket directing her to appear in Greenport Court September 14.
*Blaymiro Choc, 32, of Greenwich was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08%, failure to keep right and operating without a license by Deputies Brendan Filli and Louis Bray during a traffic stop on Route 66 in Ghent, August 29 at 12:02 a.m. Mr. Choc was issued tickets directing him to appear in Ghent Court September 14.
*Raymond C. Walz, 37, of Livingston was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of hypodermic needles and speeding by Trooper John Reppucci during a traffic stop on County Route 19, Livingston, August 29 at 11:30 p.m. State Police report that after the trooper pulled Mr. Walz over for travelling at 57 mph in a 45 mph zone, he found the driver to possess a variety of prescription pills, hypodermic needles and a glass pipe that contained crack cocaine residue. Arraigned in Livingston Court, Mr. Walz was sent to jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or bail bond.
