RED HOOK–Donald C. Lewis, 62, died November 26, 2009 at his home. Born April 5, 1947, in Brooklyn he was the son of the late Cameron and Marguerite J. (Filchner) Lewis. A Donald C. Lewisgraduate of Baldwin High School, Baldwin, Nassau County, he attended SUNY Farmingdale and worked in the insurance industry and did carpentry. He attended St. Sylvia’s Church in Tivoli. 

Mr. Lewis is survived by his children: Robert J. Lewis and his wife Christina and daughter Leighanna of Elmont, Nassau County; and Alison Lewis of Merrick, Nassau County; his sister and brother, Paula and Rich Goehring of Red Hook and Peter and Jeanine Lewis of Holtsville, Suffolk County; his ex-wife, Kathleen (Lemier); and several nieces and nephews. 

He entered the Third Degree of Masonry at Scotia Lodge in New York City. He had been elected Master of three Lodges, most recently Monumental Lodge #374 in Tivoli and Hendrick Hudson Lodge # 875 in Red Hook; and he held memberships in both the Columbia and Dutchess County Shrine Clubs. He received numerous honors and awards as a Masonic officer and leader.

Mr. Lewis served the Masonic fraternity for several terms as District Deputy for Columbia County, was a member of Cyprus Shrine in Albany, and was a leader in the computerized Children’s ID Safety program of the New York State Masons.  He was widely respected in the Hudson River Valley region for his knowledge of Masonic traditions, and often lectured on Masonic history.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, at St. Sylvia’s Church, Tivoli. Burial will be in the Masonic Plot at RedChurch Cemetery, Tivoli.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, on Monday from 2 to 4 and  7 to 9 p.m. The Masons will hold services at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Lewis’ memory to a local Masonic Lodge.
