Ancramdale man killed in snowmobile crash

ANCRAMDALE— Michael E. Miller, Jr., 25, of Ancramdale was killed in a snowmobile accident off Route 82 near his home December 12.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the accident scene by Columbia County 911 at 1:15 a.m.
An investigation reveals that Mr. Miller was operating a 2006 Arctic Cat snowmobile east through a field about 500 feet east of Route 82 near the Pat’s Lane intersection.
The vehicle crested a hill, continued a short distance on level ground, then struck a downed tree at the edge of the field.
The snowmobile and operator became airborne before the front end of the snowmobile hit the ground and flipped over. The snowmobile landed about 16 feet away from Mr. Miller, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison Jr.
Family members found Mr. Miller when they went out looking for him after he did not return home from snowmobiling.
Mr. Miller was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Columbia County Coroner Dr. George Davis pronounced him dead at the scene.
An autopsy was scheduled at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany Saturday.
On the scene for the Sheriff’s Office were Sergeant Wayne Lopez, Investigator Mark Dunspaugh and Deputies Reagan Anderson and Jeffrey Hofstetter.
Ancram firefighters and the Community Rescue Squad also responded and assisted at the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
