GHENT–Clifford J. Finn, 89, formerly of Hudson, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Whittier Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
Born August 10, 1920 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Frank and Della (Hamm) Finn.
He was a graduate of Hudson High School and attended the University of Georgia, Murray State Teachers College and the University of Iowa. He also attended Aviation Machinist Mate School and the U.S. Naval Flight School.
Mr. Finn was a field service engineer and refrigeration engineer. He retired from Bally Case & Cooler Inc. in Bally, Penn. in 1986, after almost 30 years of service. He also worked for Paul Montana as appliance manager and at the Lone Star Cement Plant.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945.
Mr. Finn was 4th Ward Alderman with Mayor John Kelly from 1951 until 1955; NYS Fire Instructor for Columbia County in 1955, and was given the U.S. Junior Chamber Distinguished Service Award in 1954.
He was Cub Scout Master of Club Scout Pack 100; Boy Scout Master of St. Mary’s Troop 101; a line officer and member of Edmunds Hose #1, 2nd and 1st Lieutenants, and Captain; a life member of Edmunds Hose # 1; a member of the American Legion; a former member of CAP; a former member of the Masonic Aquilla Lodge 700; a former member of the Lions Club; a former member and Deacon of the First Reformed Church in Hudson; and former member and secretary of the Hudson Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Finn was the beloved father and father-in-law of Bruce and Pamela Finn of Germantown; devoted grandfather of Jason C. Finn, and his wife, Lynne, of Stuyvesant; special great-grandfather of Derek J. Finn of Stuyvesant; loving brother of Violet Toomey of Vernon, Conn., Ruth Wallace of Burlington, Vt., and Doris Schenck of Glastonbury, England; step-grandfather of Jesse Corradino of Albany, and step great-grandfather of Claudia Corradino of Albany.
His beloved wife, Helen (Skrocki) Finn, and two sisters, Florence Finn and Faith Dean, died previously.
Visiting hours are 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
