ALBANY–John Allen (Mac) McDermott, 88, of Niverville, died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born in Albany November 2, 1921, he was the son of the late Charles and Nell (Brady) McDermott.
Mr. McDermott was a WWII veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps, and worked as a Civilian Contractor for the U.S. Army at both the Vorheesville Army Depot and the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania. He also worked in the maintenance department at lchabod Crane Central School.
He was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees Local #1647, a life member of the Ghent VFW and a member of the Pocono Mountain Lodge F&AM #780.
He is survived by his wife, Anna C. (Schwarz) McDermott; a son, John C. McDermott of Green Island; three stepchildren, Walter W. Bertram (Sally) of Nassau, Brenda Bartram of Valatie, and Linda Everett (Steven) of Haskell, Okla.; his siblings, Marion Schaffer, Charles G. McDermott, Edward McDermott and Cathy (Tom) Mosher; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Morton, Beth McDermott, Walter, Christian and Peter Bertram, Stacy Pfaltz, Chrissy Stancil and Heather O’Donnell; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Seven siblings Ann, James and Robert McDerrnott, Doris Cushman, Janet O’Donnell Schultt, Richard and Thomas McDermott and a grandson, Jeff Covell, died previously.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the North Chatham Cemetery with Rev. Stark Jones officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday, December 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Valatie.
