Ruel Teaney, 84, farmer, lifetime Mellenville Fire Co. member

HUDSON–Ruel Teaney, 84, of Ghent, died December 20 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born April 11, 1925 in Fort Pierre, S.D., he was the son of the late Ruel and Elsie Mueller Teaney. He moved to Ghent in 1926 when his family purchased a farm there.The family’s wishes were for windows and plenty of water, which Ghent provided compared to the Plains.

 A lifetime member of the  Mellenville Volunteer  Fire Company, he was a 50-year member of the Mellenville Grange, a member of the Columbia County Cooperative Extension and Soil and Water Conservation and a member of the Philmont United Methodist Church. He loved farming and building and enjoyed bowling, fishing, sailing and bargain hunting, when time allowed.

He is survived by his children, Thomas and Deborah Teaney of Middletown, Susan and Mark Clarke, Timothy and Vonda Teaney and Sarah and Bruce Meyers, all of Ghent; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Michael and Kevin Teaney, Shannon and Ryan Clarke, Lori and Katie Teaney and Matthew, Chris, and Elizabeth Meyers; his sister, Barbara (Rhett) Teaney Allen of Ghent; and several nieces and nephews. 

His wife of 55 years, Mary L. Stark Teaney, died previously.

Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, Wednesday, December 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 1:30 p.m. the Mellenville Volunteer Fire Company will conduct their service and at 2 p.m. a religious service will be conducted at the funeral home, presided over by Rev. David Tipple. Burial will follow at the Mellenville Cemetery.

His grandsons will be pallbearers and his granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers.
