John Hubert, 90, delivered Meals on Wheels for years

PLATTSBURGH–John William Hubert, 90, of Plattsburgh and formerly of Germantown died Sunday December 20, 2009 at Meadowbrook Health Care Center.

Mr. Hubert was born July 13, 1919 in Brooklyn, the son of the late William and Franciska (Heiman) Hubert. 

He graduated valedictorian of his class at Edison Tech of Mount Vernon and moved with his family to Germantown in 1941.

He served as corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II, serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern areas of operation.

In 1982, Mr. Hubert retired from IBM of Kingston and Poughkeepsie where he had worked for many years as a change analyzer,for a time prior to working for IBM working for the Grand Central Railroad.

He was a member of the Reformed Church of Germantown, the church’s Consistory and a member of the Jennings Willet American Legion Post of Germantown.

Mr. Hubert enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, having built his own home on Northern Boulevard in Germantown; was a devoted New York Mets fan as well as a New York Giants fan; and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. In 2008 he and his wife, Estelle, moved to Pine Harbour, an assisted living facility in Plattsburgh

Survivors in addition to his wife, Estelle (Mickle) Hubert, are his daughter, Elaine Hubert and her husband William Harwood; son Paul Hubert and his wife, Kathi Sheer; a sister, Ann Stoner; a great-granddaughter, and three step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private in the Reformed Church Cemetery of Germantown. A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced.
