HUDSON–Arthur “Bud” F. Wheeler, 85, of Greenport, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

 

Born February 16, 1924 in Hudson, he was the son of Arthur and Myra (Unson) Wheeler.

 

Mr. Wheeler was employed as the District Sales Manager for Beechnut Packing Company in Canajoharie for over 25 years.

 

He served as a sergeant and squad leader in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, a Bronze Star, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service medal, and the Good Conduct medal.

 

Mr. Wheeler was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenport, a member and past president of the Men’s Club, a member of the Board of Trustees, the Finance Chairman, and a member of the Choir. He was also a member of the Greenport VFW and a lifelong area resident.

 

He was a graduate of Hudson High School, where he was on the basketball team and played the trumpet in the band. He also played the trumpet with several dance bands around the county.

 

Mr. Wheeler was the beloved husband of Frances Wheeler; devoted father and father-in-law of David and Stephanie Wheeler and Nancy and Edward Ziemba, all of Hudson; loving brother of Elsie Kashkan of Kansas; devoted grandfather of David Anthony Wheeler and Michael Wheeler, both of Hudson; and special uncle to many nieces and nephews.

 

His sister, Connie Harris, died previously.

 

There will be no calling hours.

 

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from the Trinity United Methodist Church.
