PITTSFIELD–Irene (McDonald) Boucher, died Thursday, January 7, at Springside Skilled Nursing Facility. She was 95 years of age.

A native of Columbia County, she lived most of her life in Rossman, in the Town of Stockport. Over the years, she worked at the family general store, Universal Match, Canada Dry and for many years at the Columbia County Department of Social Services in Hudson.

She retired to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1975 with her husband, Louis Boucher, Always an avid reader, she worked as a volunteer in the St. Petersburg Public Library. Their red Mustang took them on frequent travels around the United States, visiting friends and for reunions with shipmates from the USS Cony, on which Mr. Boucher served during World War II.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Boucher returned to live in Valatie in 1996, where she was reacquainted with many old friends and enjoyed working at the Valatie Free Library.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Sharp; son-in-law, Lee Sharp; granddaughter, Meghan Sharp; great-granddaughter, Emily Pulver; and nieces and nephews around the country. Her husband and two sisters, Veronica and Ellen, died previously.

Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be offered to your local hospice care or library.
