Salvador “Sam” Zito, 82, enjoyed outdoor sports

PHILMONT–Salvador “Sam” Zito, 82, of Hudson, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

Born August 24, 1927 in Claverack, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Silvernail) Zitto.

Mr. Zito was a printer at the Universal Match Factory for over 37 years and also drove a bus for Harry Pizza for 25 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Army of Occupation Medal and the WW II Victory Medal.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and golfing.

Mr. Zito is survived by five children, Joseph Anthony Zito of Colorado and Jeffrey M. Zito, Timothy Scott Zito, Lori E. Zito, all of Hudson and Lisa (Zito) Bauhoff of Germantown; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Betty Zito of Ghent, Santi and Laura Zitto of Valatie, Frederick and Shirley Zitto of Philmont and Charles and Sara Jane Zito of North Carolina; two sisters, Ethel Leiser and Francis Genitte, both of Florida; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; and his companion, Geraldine Willowby and her family.

His son Salvador Keith Zito, his daughter Kathi Zito; three brothers, Joseph, Louis, and Ross Zito; three sisters, Sally Snack, Antionette Stacy, and Fannie Garafalo; and his grandson, Thomas Joslin, Jr., died previously.

A calling hour will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Services will be conducted at 10 am Wednesday from the funeral home.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
