VALATIE–Frieda (Behrens) Metz Assed, 95, of Stuyvesant, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since April 30, 2009.
Born in Hoboken, N.J., December 9, 1914, she was the daughter of Clara (Sluka) Behrens and John T. Behrens. At 7 years old she moved to Rossman and lived there for 43 years. She had been a resident of Stuyvesant for the last 35 years.
Mrs. Assed was employed by the Universal Match Corporation in Hudson from 1952 to 1977. After her retirement, she loved to garden, create floral arrangements for friends and practice the fine art of home economics.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Ruth Metz of Valatie, George and Dolores Metz of West Ghent, and Jerry Metz of Watertown; her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Fred Favour of Trenton, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Greg Metz of Delmar, Jeff Metz of Albany, Gary and Susan Favour, both of S.C., Justin Metz of East Nassau, Marci Wall of Chatham, and Tracy Mather of East Greenbush; five great-grandchildren, and several dear friends.
Her husband of 28 years, Charles R. Metz, died in 1961. They were married on March 4, 1933. Her husband Joseph Assed died in 1981.
Visiting hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery.
