GHENT–Anthony J. Skype passed away peacefully February 8. Born December 6, 1943 in Great Barrington, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Helen Ferris Skype.
Mr. Skype attended Chatham schools and afterwards helped with the Skypes’ IGA Market in Ghent, a family business, until the early ’70s. He later went into restaurant management and managed several different McDonald’s restaurants for over 25 years. In the ’80s he also managed the facilities at the Fireman’s Home.
An avid golfer and fisherman, Mr. Skype was a member of the Ghent Rod and Gun Club, a social member of the Ghent VFW, a lifetime member of the Ghent Fire Company and was a past president of the Chatham Little League. He was so involved with the creation of the Ghent field that it was just dedicated in his name as the Tony Skype Field.
He was a true and dedicated fan of both the Yankees and the Giants. Mr. Skype also loved cooking and had catered many local events.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Judy) Skype and Corey (Katie) Skype both of Chatham; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Kody, Tucker and Jenna; and his sister, Theresa Lewandowski of California.
His brothers, John and Eddie, died previously.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 11 at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl funeral home, Chatham from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 12 at 11 a.m., from Saint James Church.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Chatham Little League, through the funeral home, in his memory.
