POUGHKEEPSIE — Robert L. Harpp Sr., 64, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center. He married Judy Shook on February 5, 1966, at the Pine Plains First Presbyterian Church. She survives at home. Mr. Harpp was the Pine Plains highway superintendent, a job he loved. He was past chief and member of the Pine Plains Hose Company and member of the Pine Plains Rescue Squad. Mr. Harpp was a member of the Dutchess County Highway and New York State Superintendents Assoc., member of the the Executive Board of Dutchess County Highway Superintendents Assoc. and a member of the Committee for 911. He was also a past member of the auxiliary for the Pine Plains Police Department. He rejuvenated the Babe Ruth and Senior League baseball teams, volunteering many hours at the food booth at the Little League fields. He was the original crew member “Motor Man” for stock car racing for No. 34 Ottomobile, No. 32 Ottomobile and No. 99 Village Variety. He loved NASCAR racing and was a big Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed going to the games. He enjoyed the Friday night club, where he was the key entertainer. In addition to his loving mother and loving wife, Mr. Harpp is survived by a daughter, Lenora L. Hart of Stanford; a son, Robert L. Harpp Jr. of Pine Plains; three grandchildren, Abigail Harpp, Nolan Harpp and Austin Hart; three sisters, Beverly MacDonald of Millerton, Gail Killmer of Hillsdale and Joyce Cooke. His son Thomas John Harpp died in August 1969. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Plains Recreation Department, PO Box 955, Pine Plains, NY 12567. Arrangements were with the Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains. |
