VALATIE–Meta Kay (Hoops) Mitchell, 70, entered into eternal life Thursday, March 4, 2010.
Mrs. Mitchell was born December 3, 1939 in Floral Park, L.I., the daughter of the late Martin and Gretel (Lachele) Hoops and a graduate of Martin Van Buren High School, Long Island.
Mrs. Mitchell married Robert K. Mitchell on May 19, 1962 in Napanoch, and the two shared a blessed union of almost 48 years together. She was most recently a grandmother who focused much of her time attending the numerous church, school and sports-related activities of her grandchildren and then retiring for the winter months to Leesburg, Fla.
She previously worked for 19 years in the deli at the Grand Union and was a longtime member of the Niverville United Methodist Church and the Kinderhook Elks Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; her loving children, Robert (Carol) Mitchell, Matthew (Frances) Mitchell and Melissa (Jason) Klindtworth of Guilderland; her cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan, Emma, Lucas, Gabrielle, Riley and Hanna; her sisters, Gertrude Kogel and Meta Hoops; her brother Martin Hoops; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Neurosurgical ICU at AMC for the care and compassion they extended to Kay while in their care.
A Service of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Nlverville-Chatharn Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Stark Jones, pastor, officiating. Friends and relatives are invited and may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, NY 12184. Burial will take place in Kinderhook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Niverville-Chatham Center United Methodist Church, 28 Church Street, Niverville, NY 12130 in Mrs. Mitchell ‘s memory .
