HUDSON–Robert Richard Hoffman, 68, of Dutch Village in Claverack, passed away peacefully at Columbia Memorial Hospital on March 17, 2010. His loving wife, son and daughter were at his side during his last hours.
He was born on October 7, 1941 in Ghent to the late Floyd and Florence (Lowheit) Hoffman. He was baptized on April 18, 1954 (Easter Sunday) at the Stuyvesant Falls Reformed Church in Stuyvesant Falls. He graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 1960.
On September 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Dinah Lee Yates at the West Ghent Reformed Church in Ghent.
Throughout his life he worked various jobs, mostly in the agriculture tire business. Most recently prior to retiring, he was self-employed and the owner of Hoffman Farm Tire.
Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife, Dinah; his son and his fiancé, Thomas Hoffman and Cindy Rivenburgh, Stottville; his daughter and her husband, Hollie and Eric De Kraai, Salem, Iowa; his brother, Donald Hoffman, Long Lake; and five grandchildren, Shelby Rideout, Kaylee and Ian Hoffman, all of Stottville,and Ashley and Piper De Kraai of Salem.
His parents; an infant brother, Floyd Sr.; two sisters, Charlotte (Hoffmanj Scraper, Patricia (Hoffman) Woodin; and his nephew (whom he and Dinah raised and was like a son to them) Robert Floyd Scraper died previously.
Mr. Hoffman was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and an avid Yankees fan. “Poppy Bob” (as his grandchildren referred to him) will truly be missed by all who knew him.
A small family service will be held at the Ghent Reformed Church in Ghent.
