Dorothy E. Kanopka, 92, active in Stephentown

STEPHENTOWN- Dorothy E. Kanopka, 92, died Sunday afternoon at Samaritan Hospital, after being stricken at her home, surrounded by her devoted granddaughters.
Born in Stephentown on March 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Claude H. and Mary E. Rainey Chittenden. She was the loving wife of the late Casimir (Charlie) Kanopka.
Mrs. Kanopka was very active within her community, as well as the Rensselaer County Senior Citizen Center where she was awarded Senior of the Year. She was also very committed to her church, Stephentown Center Baptist Church. For many years she enjoyed Lebanon Valley Speedway racing. She was a devoted Kenny Tremont fan. She took great pride in the care of her home and lawn.
Survivors include her son John “Jackie” Kanopka and his wife, Faye, of Berlin; her grandchildren, Courtney L. Kanopka and Morgan E. Kanopka, both of Averill Park, Cheryl (Larry) Maxon of Berlin, Edward (Kim) Maxon of Brunswick; along with her great-grandchildren, Gavin Timothy Kanopka, Brittany, Dustin, Phillip and Desiree.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. for visitation. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Trygve Tomlinson. Burial will follow in the Garfield Cemetery.
