Ilona Rowen, 65, loved sewing, crafts and her grandchildren

Hudson – Ilona Rowen, 65, died peacefully in her home Saturday, March 27, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Hudson October 22, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Trowbridge and the late Irma (Patton) Kehrer.

Mrs. Rowen grew up in Hudson and married her high school sweetheart shortly after graduating. She was a homemaker, as well as a school and community volunteer while her children were small, and then later worked for and retired from Hudson River Bank. She loved sewing, doing crafts and her grandchildren.

Mrs. Rowen married Ellsworth J. Rowen, Jr. in 1962 and had four children. She is survived by her loving husband and their three children; son Michael Rowen and his wife Beth, of Round Top, daughter Chantelle Scott and her husband Edward of Stuyvesant Falls and son Christopher Rowen and his wife Casey of Austerlitz. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jett Rowen of Kinderhook, Brianna Rowen of Germantown, Meaghan and Michael ‘Mickey’ Rowen of Round Top, Samantha, Kyra, and William Scott of Stuyvesant Falls and Blaize Rowen of Austerlitz.

She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Helen Vavrina of Claverack; her stepfather, Anthony V. Kehrer of Hudson; her brothers Raymond Trowbridge and his wife Marilyn of Claverack, Jim Kehrer and his wife Nancy of Chesapeake, Va., Anthony Kehrer and his wife Marge of Castleton, Daniel Kehrer of Albany, Tim Trowbridge and his wife Cheryl of Stuyvesant Falls and Paul Trowbridge and his wife Bonnie of Mellenville; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, her son Ellsworth “E.J.” Rowen and her stepmother, Esther Trowbridge, died previously.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, March 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McDonald –Valenti – Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive in Hudson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, County Route 25 in Stockport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Deacon Mark McDarby officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

A reception for family and friends will be held after the burial in the parish hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Stockport.
