HUDSON–City Police are looking for Scott McCaul, 23, of Hudson, who allegedly ran away from them and resisted arrest during a traffic stop on Columbia Street March 28 at 3:30 a.m.
The following day, March 29 at 6:51 p.m., an officer spotted Mr. McCaul, who allegedly again set off running, with the officer in pursuit.
Mr. McCaul allegedly ran into an apartment and when the officer attempted to follow him, Amanda L. Murphy, 20, of Hudson, who police say is Mr. McCaul’s girlfriend, allegedly blocked the officer’s path. The officer was then “confronted by two pitbull-mix breed dogs” that bit him twice in the leg as he tried to continue his pursuit of Mr. McCaul inside the apartment.
Mr. McCaul, who lives at 225 Allen Street, is wanted by police and is described as 5′ 8″ tall and weighs 160 pounds.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Hudson Police at (518) 828-3388 or the detective unit tips line at (518) 828-9900.
Ms. Murphy was charged with second degree obstruction of governmental administration by Officer Shane Bower and was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
The injured officer, an eight-year veteran of the force, who was not identified by police, was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor puncture wounds and later released. The dogs were up to date on their vaccinations, police said. Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies, a State Police K-9 unit and Greenport Police are assisting with the search.
*Harry M. Wheeler, 41, of Hudson was charged with failure to register as a sex offender or verify first offense by Officer Jeffrey Keyser, March 26 at 3:16 p.m.
Mr. Wheeler was arrested on a City Court warrant because he allegedly failed to submit a change of address to the Division of Criminal Justice Services Sex Offender Registry March 16.
He was arraigned and jailed in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.
