UPDATED: Body found in river identified

HUDSON—The body pulled from the Hudson River by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit the afternoon of April 7 has been identified as that of a missing Rensselaer County man.
Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. said in a press release April 9 that an autopsy revealed the body to be that of Edward A. Smithrovitch, 48, of Troy.
The sheriff did not give the cause of death or any further information, except to say that the case has been turned over to Troy Police, who had initiated a missing person investigation into Mr. Smithrovitch’s disappearance in their jurisdiction.
