PITTSFIELD- Floyd Cummings, 95, of New Lebanon, died on Wednesday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in New Lebanon August 10, 1914, he was the son of the late Leroy and Catherine Turner Cummings, Sr. He was the loving husband of the late Lillian Wear Cummings, who died in 1980.
A lifelong resident of New Lebanon, Mr. Cummings attended New Lebanon schools and was a member of the Church of Our Saviour. He was employed by Lane Construction for 28 years retiring in 1976. He helped build the “New Route 20” through New Lebanon. Mr. Cummings was a member of the BAC #2 construction union, a member and former president of the Lions Club, along with being a longtime member of the Lebanon Grange. He built many homes in the Chatham/New Lebanon area. He enjoyed gardening, masonry work and carpentry.
Survivors include his children Floyd “Buddy” (Helen) Cummings, Jr. of West Lebanon, Donna L. Smith of New Lebanon, step-daughter Lynn (Gus) Murray of West Lebanon, step daughter-in-law Judy Wear of Canaan, along with 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Daughter Alice Mae Nicometi and siblings Leroy Jr. and Theodore Cummings died previously.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Church of Our Saviour, Routes 20 & 22, New Lebanon where Rev. Canon Clinton G. Dugger will read the Burial Office. Inurnment will follow in the Cemetery of the Evergreens. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. for visitation.
