Joseph Sandagato, 86, former Hudson 1st Ward rep.

LIVINGSTON–Joseph R. Sandagato of Hudson and lifelong resident, died Thursday May 6, 2010 at Livingston Hills Nursing Home. He was 86.

Born in Hudson on September 4, 1923, he was the son of the late Michael and Victoria (Laurella) Sandagato. Mr. Sandagato was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre where he received wounds and returned home. He went on to work for the New York State Dept. of Transportation and retired after 29 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #184 Hudson, Disabled American Veterans, life member of Washington Hose Co. and Hudson Elks Lodge # 787. He was also a Columbia County supervisor, representing Hudson’s 1st Ward in the late 1950s to early 60s.

Mr. Sandagato is survived by his sons Michael Sandagato of Hudson and Joseph Sandagato of Saratoga Springs; one sister, Philomena Kreeber of Hudson; grandchildren Todd, Jaime, Lauren and Christopher Sandagato;  and two great-granddaughters, Gianna and Amelia Sandagato. His wife, Christina E. Russo, and brothers, Anthony, Ralph, John and Michael Jr. , died previously.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday  at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 429 E. Allen Street, Hudson with Fr. Winston Bath officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Cedar Park Cemetery.

The family expressed special thanks to the nurses, aides and staff at Livingston Hills Nursing Home for their courtesy and compassion extended to Joseph during his stay there.
