ALBANY–Clayton A. Mink, 89, of Hudson, formerly of Linlithgo, died May 12, 2010 at Albany Medical Center.
Born October 20, 1920 in Hudson he was the son of the late Charles and Lottie (DeWitt) Mink.
Mr. Mink was a highly decorated Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps 7th Squadron 34th Bomb Group and was a P.O.W. during WWII.
He retired in 1983 after 25 years as a garage foreman with the Columbia County Highway Department.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Germantown, past President of the Church’s Administrative Board, past Church Trustee, past president of the Methodist Men’s Club, past Chairman of the Pastor’s Relations Committee, ast recording secretary of the church, ast president of the Columbia Co. Civil Service Association, past Commander of the Jennings-Willet American Legion, Life and Charter Member of the Southern Columbia Memorial VFW Post of Germantown, past Commander of the Rip Van Winkle Counties Council VFW, past Chief of Staff District #3 VFW, past National Aide-de-Camp VFW, member of the American X POW, member of the N.E. Chapter New York XPOW, life member of the D.A.V., life member of the Glencadia Rod and Gun Club of Stuyvesant, member of the Roe Jan Creek Boat Club, past Nobel Grand of the former Halycon Lodge IOOF of Germantown, past District Deputy Grand Master IOOF Columbia District.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Schmitt of Connecticut and Sharon Smith of Stuyvesant and two granddaughters, Cara Ryan of Waterford and Alicia Smith of Rhode Island.
His wife, Helen, died May 12, 2008; a brother, Floyd, also died previously.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home .
Burial with full military honors will be in the Valley View Cemetery of Germantown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Southern Columbia Memorial VFW Post of Germantown or the Jennings Willet American Legion Post of Germantown.
