HUDSON–Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police assigned to the Capital District Drug Task Force, assisted by Hudson Police, arrested Edwin E. Rivera of Stockport for unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon, June 29 at 11:35 a.m.

The arrest was made on a federal warrant issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge David R Homer, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.

Mr. Rivera was arrested in an apartment on State Street.

He was arraigned before Magistrate Homer, who committed him to the custody of the U.S. Marshals without bail, to return to federal court in Albany at a later date.

The Sheriff’s Office became a member of the task force in 2009. An investigator from the Drug Enforcement and Education Unit is assigned full time to the task force.

The task force is a federal agency led by special agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Attorney’s Office, as well as officers from the State Police, various sheriff’s offices and local police departments in the Capital District.

The task force, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office and local departments have worked on current drug cases over the past several months on current drug cases, according to the press release. “These arrests are only the beginning. The Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Hudson Police, Chatham Police and other local police agencies in our county along with the Capital District Drug Task Force, all have made illegal drug trafficking and the crimes associated with it a priority. The message is, don’t come to Columbia County to deal drugs,” Sheriff Harrison said in the release.
