CANAAN—Tracy Brock Jahn Jr, long-time resident of Canaan, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2010 after a 15-month battle with leukemia.
Born September 27, 1944 in Pittsfield, MA he was the son of the late Tracy Brock Jahn, Sr. and Helen Chamberlain Jahn. He was the loving husband of Mary (Dunton) Jahn; they were married at Flat Brook Baptist Church in Canaan, August 8, 1970.
Mr. Jahn was a graduate of Pittsfield High School 1962; graduate of Berkshire Community College 1965; graduate of North Adams State College 1968 with a bachelor of arts degree and in 1972 with a masters of education degree, as well as many continuing education credits at area colleges.
He was a middle school science teacher for 35 years, 32 at Berkshire Jr-Sr High School. He substituted at local area schools after his retirement and also taught at St. Agnes School in Dalton, MA. He was currently working at the Canaan AmBest Super Stop.
Mr. Jahn served Canaan as a firefighter since joining the fire company in late 1990. He rose through the ranks serving as truck lieutenant, training captain, second assistant chief, first assistant chief and finally chief. At the time of his death, he was serving as first assistant chief again.
He loved learning and continued to learn what he could about his cancer, and kept in touch with friends and family by e-mail, Facebook and Skype.
He is survived by his son, Frederick of Ward Arkansas, Fred’s wife Christine, grandson, Marshall and his daughter Jennifer of Johnston, Iowa, his cousin (almost brother) Richard Murphy and wife Linda, plus many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, NY, on Sunday July 18 from 4-7 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 19 at 10am, at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon, NY, where Tracy was a member. We will be meeting at church that morning at 9:45am. Interment will follow at the Canaan Cemetery.
