Chester Najda, 88, IBM engineer, WWII vet

LIVINGSTON—Chester R. “Chet” Najda, 88, of Elizaville, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Livingston Hills Nursing Center.

Mr. Najda was a senior associate engineer with IBM until he retired in 1986 after 30 years with the company. During his career he worked in Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Fishkill.

 

He was a World War II veteran of the US Army. He served in France, Germany and Central Europe, and was the recipient of a Bronze Star Medal.

Born March 23, 1922, in the Bronx, he was the son of the late John and Felicia (Glebocki) Najda. He became a part-time resident of Elizaville in 1953, and moved there full-time in 1956. He was a member of Red Hook Post #7765, VFW, the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Elizaville Fire Company, the AARP and was past president of the Elizaville Gun Club.

Mr. Najda married Adeline T. Benson June 25, 1949 in the Bronx. She died December 24, 2001.

He is survived by his son, Raymond J. Najda of Elizaville, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial services were private.
