HUDSON—Raymond I. Simmons, 87, of Hudson died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Firemen’s Home.
Born April 9, 1923 in Hudson, he was the son of Catherine Simmons and Thomas Barbara.
Mr. Simmons worked in the maintenance department at Columbia Memorial Hospital before retiring. He had also worked for the Lone Star Cement Company.
He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Hudson VFW, the Hudson American Legion and the Italian War Veterans.
Mr. Simmons was a friendly, outgoing person and loved everyone.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Goldie (Kern) Simmons of Hudson; his devoted children, Raymond, Jr. of Stuyvesant, Carol DeAngelo, William Simmons and Michiko Bu, all of Greenport, and Arthur Simmons of Fla.; his loving siblings, Martin Bermel of Saugerties, William Bermel of Livingston and Eva Quick of Stockport; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lois Hyer, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were at the Firemen’s Home Chapel, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, December 11. Burial will be in the Mellenville Union Cemetery.
