Columbia County under state of emergency

COLUMBIA COUNTY–A State of Emergency for all Columbia County has been declared by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors until further notice, according to an email from Copake Supervisor Reggie Crowley.

Road crews are struggling to keep up with the rapid snowfall. A state of emergency means no travel except for emergency. Roads are snow covered and dangerous. Visability is almost non-existent, according to the email.

There are no reports of power outages in the Copake area. If extended power outages do occur the Copake Town Hall will be opened for a warming station. If this occurs, the local radio station 93.5 will be notified.

Anyone with a medical emergency should calll 911. The County Emergency Operation Center has been activated.

The best thing everyone can do is stay off the roads and let the crews do their work, the email said.
