George Strba, 81, chef, sportsman

HUDSON—George M. Strba, 81, of Claverack, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born April 23, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Polak) Strba.

Mr. Strba was a stock manager for more than 19 years at the V&O Press in Greenport and retired from Brookwood Youth Facility, where he was a chef.

He served in the US Army from August 7, 1946 until December 24, 1947.

He was a life member of the Federation of Polish Sportsmen.

Mr. Strba is survived by several cousins and many close friends, including John Boor of Glenco Mills, Steve Hook of Claverack, and Joseph Harpis of North Carolina.

Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 13 at the Bates & Anderson—Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 14 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Ancram Cemetery in the spring.
