George Kostszewski, 81, laborer, worked for DPW

HUDSON—George J. Kostszewski, 81, of Claverack, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born August 10, 1929 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Louise (Spiewak) Kostszewski.

Mr. Kostszewski was a laborer for Local Union 190 in Albany and also worked for the Columbia County Department of Public Works for 11 years.

He was a member of the Federation of Polish Sportsmen Club, a member of Phoenix Hose Fire Company, an avid hunter and fisherman and lived all of his life in the area.

Mr. Kostszewski is survived by his wife, Frances (Scalera) Kostszewski of Claverack; two sons, Michael (Susan) Kostszewski of Craryville and Stephen Kostszewski of Florida; his sister, Martha T. Kostszewski of Hudson; and two granddaughters, Alicia and Michelle Kostszewski, both of Craryville.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank J. and Michael Kostszewski, and his sister, Janice McCan.

Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, March 2, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice of Columbia Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414.

Cynthia Kenney, 80, devoted to family

HUDSON—Cynthia A. Simpson Kenney, 80, of Livingston, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hudson, October 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna (Pulver) Kenney.

Ms. Kenney was a homemaker and devoted to her family.

Surviving are: eight children, JoSherrie (Kenneth Shea) Simpson of Livingston, Joseph Simpson of Stottville, JoAnn, Joette, Billy-Jo and Frank Simpson, all of Hudson, Vicki Simpson of Catskill and James Jackson of VA; two sisters, Anna Simpson of Hudson and Adelaide Belcher of Churchtown; several grandchildren, including Tina Dort of Columbiaville, Anthony Deamer of FL, John McGee of TN, Angela Bray of GA, Sherri Snyder, Robert and Christopher Simpson, all of Hudson, and Dawn Simpson of Stottville; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her daughter, JoAn Simpson, three sisters, Elizabeth Weed, Patricia Stickles and Elmira Duntz; and three brothers, Dwight, George and Harry Kenney.

Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Friday, March 4 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 2 p.m.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.

James Furey, 66, real estate broker, bus driver

ALBANY—James R Furey, 66, of Main Street, Valatie died Sunday, February 27, 2011, at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, September 30, 1944, he was the son of the late James E. Furey and Catherine (Graham) Furey of Stuart, Florida.

Mr. Furey was a US Army veteran and was the third generation of his family to be a member of the New York Police Department. He was a self-employed real estate broker and a bus driver for the Ichabod Crane School District. He was loved and known as Mr. Jim by the students on his route. He retired from the district in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Joan E. (Stuckart) Furey of Valatie; three children, Daniel James Furey (Gloriana Michelle) of Valatie, Christine Anne Fahey (William) of Chatham and Jennifer Mary Furey of Valatie; a sister, Maureen Troukis of Stuart, FL; four grandchildren, Andrew Patrick Fahey, Nathaniel Liam Fahey, Daniel Francis Furey, Sabrina St. Claire Furey; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Molyn. Spring interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Valatie, Tuesday, March 1 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
