GHENT–A Sheriff’s deputy was hurt when his cruiser was hit by an alleged drunk driver, March 7 at 5:45 p.m.
While on patrol headed south on Route 66 near Tipple Road, Deputy Scott Leggett was flagged down by state Department of Transportation workers, who asked him to help them stop motorists from removing and driving around flood barricades across the closed highway, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.
As Deputy Leggett was assisting, Robert B. Hubbard, Jr., 38, of Ghent, driving his 2000 Dodge Caravan south, struck the side rear of the deputy’s 2008 Dodge Durango.
At first, Deputy Leggett could not get out of the vehicle, but was eventually able to exit through the driver’s side window. The Greenport Rescue Squad took him to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment of back, neck and leg pain. He was later released. Mr. Hubbard refused medical attention from the squad at the scene.
Mr. Hubbard was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08%, speed not reasonable and prudent, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and reckless driving.
Deputies Todd Hyson and William Dunspaugh from the Sheriff’s Office Accident and Incident Scene Investigation Unit were on the scene along with Captain David Bartlett, Sergeant Michael Merante, Deputy Heath Benansky and Investigator Mark Dunspaugh and the West Ghent Volunteer Fire Company.
Mr. Hubbard was released to a third party and will answer the charges in the Ghent Court March 14 at 7 p.m.
Hudson
City police are seeking the public’s assistance in their investigation of an incident in which a man was cut during a fight near the intersection of North Fifth and State Streets, March 8, Chief Ellis C. Richardson said in a press release.
At about 1:39 p.m., a patrolman was flagged down by a passing motorist, who reported the crime.
Officers and detectives found the victim at 508 State Street.
The Greenport Rescue Squad took the 20-year-old Hudson man to Columbia Memorial Hospital. He has deep cuts to his face and was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.

*Tyrell A Butler, 29, of Hudson was charged with second degree unlawful imprisonment, first degree criminal contempt and second degree harassment by Officer Nicolas Pierro, February 23 at 7 p.m.
Mr. Butler allegedly threatened a 28-year-old woman, wouldn’t allow her to leave an apartment at 324 Warren Street and violated a court order of protection.
He was arraigned by Judge Richard Koweek and sent to jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond
Canaan
Tyshe Gil,16, of the Berkshire Farm Center, Canaan was charged with third degree criminal mischief, a felony, by New Lebanon State Police, February 24.
The teenager allegedly damaged numerous items at the school. He was released with an appearance ticket returnable in Canaan Court.
*Elroy Dupuis, 46, of White Plains was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and several traffic violations by New Lebanon Trooper Bryan Cloutier during a traffic stop on State Route 22 for a loud exhaust February 27.
The trooper found that Mr. Dupuis had a suspended license and registration and also had crack cocaine and a crack pipe. He will answer the charges in Canaan Court March 10.
Kinderhook
Kinderhook State Police received a report from someone who found a lost bank card February 21.
After determining who the owner of the card was–David Higgs, 22, of Kinderhook–troopers discovered that the card owner was wanted by Hudson Police for seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Trooper met with Mr. Higgs and gave him back his card. He was then taken into custody on the warrant and turned over to Hudson Police.
