CHATHAM– Robert Christopher Reilly, 46, formerly of Chatham, who is wanted by Chatham Police on a March 2010 arrest warrant for grand larceny, was taken into custody in Omaha, NE, on an unrelated burglary charge, according to a March 16 press release from Chatham Police.
Mr. Reilly is accused of stealing a silver Tiffany flatware dinner set valued at $10,000 from a private residence in the village. Chatham Police worked with the Albany Police and were able to recover 80% or $8,000 worth of the stolen silverware in the Albany area.
Mr. Reilly, who is on parole in New York State, disappeared shortly after the theft. State parole authorities also hold a warrant for his arrest. Police have been searching for him since the heist. Chatham Police contacted the News Channel 6 Perp Patrol, hosted by Liz Bishop and highlighted the Reilly case on several news segments.
He is currently housed at the Douglas County Correctional Facility in Omaha. New York State Parole authorities and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office will coordinate Mr. Reilly’s return to answer the charges in Chatham Village Court.
*Justin M. Watson, 22, of Latham Watson was charged with third degree assault and second degree criminal contempt on an arrest warrant by Chatham Police at the Albany County Courthouse, March 16 at 3:35 p.m.
The warrant stemmed from a domestic incident at a private residence September 17, 2010. Mr. Watson allegedly assaulted a Hudson man, causing him physical injury. He also allegedly violated an order of protection issued on behalf of a Chatham woman.
He was arraigned before Chatham Village Justice Mark Portin and sent to the county jail on $5,000 cash bail pending a return date in village court.
Greenport
Rahsean Bowman, 24, and Kewan L. Prather, Jr., 19, both of Catskill, were charged with third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony, and second degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm), a class C felony by Sheriff’s Office Sergeants William Zincio and Michael Merante during a traffic stop, March 13 at 8:45 p.m.
Arraigned before Justice Francis Abitabile in Greenport Court, both were sent to the county jail, Mr. Bowman in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bail bond and Mr. Prather in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bail bond. Both will return to court at a later date.
*Vincent LaPierre, 25, of Germantown was charged with petit larceny and aggravated unlicensed operation by State Police from Livingston, February 28.
A local business reported that a man had left their premises with a roll of copper without paying for it. An employee took down the man’s license plate number and troopers later caught up with him. They found he had allegedly stolen more than $900 worth of copper.
He was arraigned in Greenport Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail.
Claverack
David Cowles, 25, of Claverack was charged with felony third degree criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor second degree menacing by State Police from Livingston, March 20.
Troopers were called to a Claverack residence to investigate a disturbance. Their investigation revealed that Mr. Cowles allegedly threatened to harm people at the residence with a kitchen utensil.
Arraigned in Livingston Court, Mr. Cowles was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $40,000 bail bond
Kinderhook
A driver was hurt in a one-car crash on County Route 21 at the intersection with Featherbed Lane, February 25 at 12:10 p.m.
Ellen Goott, 61, of Valatie was driving her 2002 Saab southeast on County Route 21 when she lost control of her vehicle on the snowy highway, slid off the road into a tree and mailboxes. The Valatie Rescue Squad took Ms. Goott to the Albany Medical Center for treatment of a head injury. Deputy David Rose investigated.
Hillsdale
Michael Langton, 47, of Hillsdale was charged with third degree criminal mischief by State Police from Livingston, March 15.
Mr. allegedly punctured the tires on a vehicle after he was ejected from a Hillsdale bar. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable in Hillsdale Court.
Alcohol
The following face alcohol related charges:
*Thomas McArther, 36, of Germantown was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08% and failure to keep right by Deputies Brendan Filli and Kris Bauhoff, February 21 at 2:36 a.m.
Mr. McArther was involved in a property damage automobile crash on County Route 8 north of the intersection with South Road in Germantown. His vehicle went off the roadway after sliding on snow and crashed into a utility pole. He will answer the charges in Germantown Town Court at a later date.
*Richard A. Gregory, Jr., 44, of South Cairo was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense; aggravated DWI, having a blood alcohol content .18% or higher; drinking alcohol in motor vehicle on a highway; and broken glass by Hudson Police Officer Jeffrey F. Keyser February 25 at 7:25 p.m. An off-duty police officer from a local police department reported an erratic driver on South Third Street, Hudson, where Mr. Gregory allegedly forced two vehicles off of the road. Mr. Gregory was located by Hudson Police at 228 Allen Street. They took him to the station for a chemical test.
Arraigned before Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Gregory was held on $500 cash bail.
*Jesus C. Castellanos, 32, of Claverack was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08%, unsafe lane change, following too closely and operating without a license by Deputies Brendan Filli and Kris Bauhoff during a traffic stop on State Route 9H, Claverack, February 28 at 1:55 a.m. Mr. Castellanos was released with traffic tickets and directed to appear in Claverack Court at a later date.
*Andrew Witherell, 29, of Ghent was charged with driving while intoxicated, unregistered motor vehicle and two equipment violations by Deputies Brendan Filli and Kris Bauhoff during a traffic stop on Fairview Avenue, Greenport, February 21 at 11:56 p.m. Mr. Witherell also refused to submit to a chemical test as required by law and was arraigned in Greenport Court before Justice Robert Brenzel. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court at a later date.
