Jordan Katz, 85, raised cattle, WWII vet

SALISBURY, CT—Jordan “Jay” V. Katz, 85, of Ancramdale passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Noble Horizons Nursing Home.

He was born in New Rochelle, November 9, 1925, the son of the late Herman and Martha (Meltzer) Katz.

He served in the US Navy for four years during World War II and was a member of the Ancram Zoning Board of Appeals.

Mr. Katz was owner and operator of Shoe String Farm in Ancramdale, where he raised Highland cattle from Scotland.

On August 29, 1948 in White Plains, he married Alice (Gordon) Katz. She survives him at home.

In addition to his loving wife Alice, survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Katz and his wife Kyle of Colorado; and Andrew Katz of Florida.

He was predeceased by a brother, Burton Katz.

Funeral service and burial are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ancram Fire Company, P.O. Box 8, Ancram 12502.

Elena Gentile, 91, seamstress, church member

GHENT—Elena L. Gentile, 91, of Hudson died Wednesday, May 25 at Whittier Nursing and Skilled Rehab Center.

She was born January 1, 1920 in Caserta, Italy, the daughter of the late Raffaele and Rosa (Valillo) Liquori.

She was 1 of 13 children. She was a seamstress for Riverside Manufacturing on Allen Street in Hudson and a member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Hudson as well as the Sacred Heart/ Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Shrine in Greenport.

She will be greatly missed by: her sons, Neil R. Gentile of Hudson, Robert A. and (Brigitte) Gentile of Ghent; granddaughters, Krista and Erika; as well as many nieces, nephews and her extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert P. Gentile August 13, 1964. Calling hours will be Friday May 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary Prayers at 7 p.m. at McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Sacred Heart/Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Shrine Route 9, Greenport ,Saturday, May 28 at 9 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church at 8:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson.
