Reginald Grener, Jr., 84, maintenance man, former alderman

ALBANY—Reginald C. Grener, Jr., 84, of Hudson passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born August 12, 1926 in Mellenville, he was the son of the late Rose (Anderson) Grener and Reginald C. Grener, Sr.

Mr. Grener served in the US Navy during World War II and was employed in the maintenance department at the Hudson Correctional Facility until retiring.

He was a 60-year member and past president of the Federation of Polish Sportmen Club, a life member of the Hudson Elks Club, a 60-year member of the J.W. Edmonds Hose Company #1, a member of the Hudson VFW and American Legion, a member of St. Mary’s Church and an alderman for the Fifth Ward.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Agnes (Witko) Grener of Hudson; three children, Vaughn Grener, Valerie Grener, and Vanessa Grener, all of Hudson; two grandchildren, Jeffery Grener of Hudson and Karen (Michael) Grener-Antonelli of Ghent; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Reginald Antonelli and Katharine Antonelli, both of Ghent; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Douglas Grener.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Joan Collins, 77, dedicated to Christian ministry

ALBANY—Joan Frances Collins, 77, of Brookfield Lane, Valatie died Sunday June 5, 2011, at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in New York City, January 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Sitler) Lawler.

Mrs. Collins retired from a job with New York State a number of years ago and for the last decade was dedicated to Christian ministry. She was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Christian Leadership and was committed to their mission to provide excellent Christian education to all families, regardless of income. For the last eight years, Mrs. Collins volunteered in the school’s art department, and her help and encouragement will be missed by ACL teachers and students.

She is survived by: four children, Patricia Cavagnaro of Valatie, Ann Schwartz of Charlotte, NC, Joan Yellot of Long Lake and William R. Collins of New York City; seven grandchildren; Lauren Stollow of New York City, Matt Cavagnaro of Troy, Peter and Joan Schwartz of Charlotte, NC, William and Ryan Yellot of Long Lake, Elizabeth Grace Collins of New York City; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 10, 10 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie, with Deacon Peter Trawinski officiating. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, June 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the
