Patricia Bolstad, 87, worked for the CIA, WWII vet

E. GREENBUSH—Patricia Anne (Williams) Bolstad of Hudson, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Evergreen Commons at the age of 87.

Born in Manhattan, May 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Grace (Odell) Williams.

During World War II, she served in the US Navy. After her discharge, she worked for the British Admiralty in Manhattan. She later worked for the Central Intelligence Agency during the Korean Conflict. She met her future husband in Hawaii, where he was stationed with the Air Force while she was working in the CIA office there. They were married in the Bronx, where they started their family, later moving to Poughkeepsie and finally to Hudson.

Mrs. Bolstad worked for several years for the Conservation Service Office then as a service representative in the Social Security office in Hudson for many years. Following her retirement, she returned to work at Columbia Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator for another 10 years.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a warm and generous woman. She had a great sense of humor and was a friend to many. She was predeceased by her husband, Jarvis “Jay” Bolstad in 2002.

Survivors include: a son, Carl and wife Deborah Bolstad of Hudson; two daughters, Lynne Bolstad and husband Yoshiro Matsuo of Oneonta and Kathleen Bolstad and husband Rick Fernandez of Valatie; her brother, Robert Williams of Tacoma, WA; her sister, Virginia Attinelly of Croton-on-Hudson; grandchildren, Mari Matsuo of Albany, Kimie Matsuo (serving in the Peace Corps in Benin, Africa), Austin and Devyn Fernandez of Valatie, Sarah Casanova and husband Isaac Casanova of Ghent; great-grandsons, Cameron, Dominic and Anthony Casanova of Ghent; and several nephews and their children.

Calling hours will be Monday, August 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McDonald-Valenti-Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 23, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson, with Fr. Winston Bath and Fr. Peter Chepaitis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany 12211-1875.

Emily Hobson, 64, bookkeeper, administrator

ALBANY—Emily C. Hobson, 64, passed away, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Albany Medical Center.

Born February 19, 1947 in Brooklyn, she was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Gerda Oleski. She moved to upstate New York in 1962 and lived in Greenport.

Ms. Hobson was a self-employed bookkeeper and administrator in retail sales.

She was the devoted mother of Connie (Salvatore) Dispenza and Diane Finn; step-mother of Philip Hobson; beloved grandmother of Anthony and Nicole Dispenza, and loving sister of Edward (Joyce) Oleski.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 20 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 4 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Emily’s name.

Douglas Wolf, 61, trucker, collected model trains

HUDSON—Douglas Scott Wolf of Greenport died August 17, 2011, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 9, 1950 in Fort Mead, MD, and later settled in Columbia County.

Mr. Wolf was the owner/operator of his own rig for 33 years. After his retirement, he became a Walmart organizer. He was an avid model train and truck collector.

He is survived by: his wife, Rhonda Clark Wolf; two daughters, Michelle Tornoe and January; two sons, Brian and Scott; step-son, William Harmon; grandchildren, Ricky, RJ, Melanie, Megan and Austin; nephew, Kendall (Mary) Clark; great niece, Danyelle Clark; sister-in-law, Roxanne (Woody) Woodward; brother-in-law, Randy Clark; and other relatives and friends.
