James Moon, 87, Navy vet, known as ‘Pops’

E. CHATHAM—James Goodrich Moon, of East Chatham died August 22, 2011 at home.

Born September 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Hubert and Ruth M. Chase Moon.

Mr. Moon married Carolyne Champney Moon, December 26, 1945. He served his country in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He joined in 1942 and was discharged in 1946.

Mr. Moon leaves: his children, James A. (Judy), Sharon A. of East Chatham, Brad A. (Anita) of Homasassa, FL, Terry A. (Mary) of East Chatham; grandchildren, Leeann Guest, Brian, Evan, David, Willy, Adam, Jennifer, and Jessica Moon; his brother, Arthur Moon. He was predeceased by his brother, Bill and his granddaughters, Courtney and Amanda Moon.

He will be lovingly remembered as Pops at Chatham Tire and Oil.

A public graveside service was conducted August 27, 2011, at noon at the Cemetery of the Maples, East Chatham.

Kathryn Ressler, 94, made wedding dresses, caterer

HUDSON—Kathryn “Kay” Marie Ressler, 94, of Hudson, passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Firemen’s Home surrounded by her devoted family.

Mrs. Ressler was born December 23, 1916 in Hudson to the late Laroy and Eva Mae (Jones) Spateholts.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 74 years, John “Red” P. Ressler, Sr., her son, John “Jack”, Jr., one brother, two sisters and her grandson, Anthony Allen.

She is survived by: her devoted daughters, Linda Ressler of Alameda, CA, and Sharon Ressler and Marita Delaney, both of Hudson.  Also surviving are her brother, Larry Spateholts of Cuba, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ressler enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family. She was a self-employed home health aide, made wedding dresses, worked in textiles and taught at the Training School for Girls in Hudson.  She also found time to do catering with her late husband. When she was younger, she loved being a vaudeville entertainer.

Funeral services were Wednesday, August 31 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.

Burial was in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Martha Beck, 68, well-traveled, tender-hearted

ALBANY—Martha Lynn (Ewasick) Beck, 68, lost her battle with cancer Thursday, August 25, 2011 at St. Peter’s Hospice, Albany, in the presence of her loving family.

Throughout her illness, Mrs. Beck never lost heart, she never lost hope, she never lost faith, and she never, ever, gave up. Her first concern was the affect her illness had on her family, whom she so cherished.

She was born in Hudson, July 8, 1943 to Michael and Martha Ewasick, who survive her.

Mrs. Beck graduated from Hudson High School and from college with a degree in fine arts. She worked for Pan American Airlines as a purser and traveled to many countries throughout the world.

On November 11, 1967, she married Russell Beck and together they raised their family. She also played an active role in the success of family businesses serving as secretary-treasurer of Chatham Frozen Foods and Valley Oil Company. Her kind deeds for others were always discreet.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by her loving children, Russell D. Beck (Jennifer) of Ghent and Christine Tomczyk (Daniel) of Sandwich, MA; her adored grandchildren, Russell Beck, Elizabeth Beck, Annabelle Tomczyk, Charles Beck, Jennifer Beck and Lilly Tomczyk; and her brother, David Ewasick of Hernando Beach, FL. She will also be missed by several cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws and close friends.

Mrs. Beck will be remembered for her pretty smile, natural grace and tender heart.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Claverack. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Beck’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville 12211.
