Bats fly before police crack down on Hudson fight

HUDSON — City Police charged two men in connection with a fight involving baseball bats.

Juan M. Cintron, 40, of Hudson was charged with second degree menacing, trespassing and third degree criminal possession of a weapon-by Officer James Nero at Columbia Memorial Hospital, 71 Prospect Avenue, August 25 at 3:50 p.m.

Police went to Washington Street to investigate a large fight with baseball bats. Their investigation revealed that Mr. Cintron allegedly attempted to assault a 19-year-old man at his residence with a weapon during the fight. Mr. Cintron also allegedly refused to leave the property. Investigation is continuing and more arrests may be pending. Hudson Police were assisted by State Police and Sheriff’s deputies, who were also assisting with an unrelated shooting.

Mr. Cintron was arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek and sent to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

In connection with the same bat-wielding incident on Washington Street, Officer Nicholas Hodges charged John P. Morgan, 35, of Mellenville with second degree menacing, trespass and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, August 30 at 9:23 a.m.

A co-defendant in the case with Mr. Cintron, Mr. Morgan allegedly entered the 19-year-old male victim’s property, displayed and used a wooden bat against him. Mr. Morgan turned himself in at the police station.

Arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin, Mr. Morgan was held on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He was later released on bond.

*David N. DiBlasi, 42, of Hudson was charged with second degree assault and third degree criminal possession of a weapon by Officer Jeffrey Keyser at the police station, July 29 at 8:39 p.m.

Mr. DiBlasi allegedly cut a 62-year-old man on the left forearm with a curved bladed, knife-type weapon during an incident on Warren Street. The victim sought medical treatment at Columbia Memorial Hospital for a laceration to his forearm. He was later released. Mr. DiBlasi was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and sent to the county jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.

*Frederick Ware Williams, 22, of Hudson was charged with two counts of second degree menacing and one count of third degree criminal possession of a weapon by Officer Daniel Scali at 518 State Street, August 26 at 3:44 a.m.

Mr. Williams got into an argument with a 23-year-old Hudson woman and a 24-year-old man and allegedly pointed, what appeared to be a handgun at their chests. The victims identified the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident. The investigation is continuing.

He was arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek and sent to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

*Ashley Leigh Ramsey, 27, of Stottville was charged with resisting arrest, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal trespass by Officer Tracey Newkirk at 25 Railroad Avenue, August 2 at 2:05 p.m.

Hudson Police officers went to Railroad Avenue to arrest Ms. Ramsey on a City Court warrant for criminal trespass. When police tried to take her into custody, she allegedly physically resisted them, became combative with officers and refused to comply with officers’ commands. She also allegedly left her two children ages 6 and 8 in a motor vehicle in the parking lot unsupervised. When police looked for the children, they found them playing on the active railroad tracks out of view.

The warrant stems from an August 1 incident where she was seen by Bliss Towers Security on the property after having been served an order to stay off the property.

Ms. Ramsey was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and jailed in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.

In connection with an unrelated incident, Officer Newkirk also charged Ms. Ramsey with second degree harassment at the police station, August 2 at 1:05 p.m.

Ms. Ramsey allegedly punched a 22-year-old woman in the face, stomach, and chest during a dispute, July 27 on North Fifth Street. She was issued an appearance ticket on the charge.

On August 4 at 8:40 a.m., Ms. Ramsey was again charged with second degree harassment, stemming from an incident at 25 Railroad Avenue, August 2.

Ms. Ramsey allegedly spit in the face of a 22-year-old woman. She was released following arraignment in front of City Judge Richard Koweek.

*Peter Paul Rogers, III, 27, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault and fourth degree criminal mischief by Officer Shane Bower at 513 Clinton Street, July 31 at 2 a.m.

Police investigated a fight during which Mr. Rogers allegedly punched a 52-year-old man in the face, causing a cut to the left side of the victim’s nose. He also allegedly punched and broke a window belonging to the victim.

Mr. Rogers was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and jailed in lieu of $250 cash bail or $500 bond.

*Luz Virginia Santiago, 47, of Hudson was charged with endangering welfare of child and second degree harassment by Officer Dean Rowe at 102 North Fifth Street, August 2 at 8:48 p.m.

Hudson Police responded to a 911 call reporting that a child was struck by an intoxicated woman. Ms. Santiago allegedly punched and kicked a 12-year-old boy. She was arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek and jailed in lieu of $250 cash bail or $500 bond.

*Erik C. Newell, 33, of Lady Lake, FL, was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief by Officer Jeffrey Keyser at 69 South Front Street, August 1 at 8:28 p.m.

Mr. Newell allegedly intentionally struck a mirror in the restroom of the Amtrak train station and broke it. An Amtrak employee saw Mr. Newell with cuts on his hands and reported the incident.

He was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

*Anthony J. Wise, 67, of Hudson was charged with third degree attempted assault by Officer Jeffrey Keyser, August 12 at 8:28 a.m.

Mr. Wise allegedly punched a woman in the face, causing swelling and redness to her cheek and cuts to the inside of her lip at 446 Carroll Street.

Arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Wise was jailed in lieu of $250 cash bail or $500 bond.

*Peta G. Walker, 36, of Hudson was charged with fourth degree stalking by Officer Rodney Waithe at the police station, August 4 at 10:42 a.m.

Ms. Walker allegedly showed up at a woman’s home and work on several occasions causing her to fear for her safety. Ms. Walker turned herself in on the complaint and was released after arraignment before City Judge Mark Portin.

Drugs/alcohol

The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:

*Rahleek R. Coleman, 24, of Hudson was charged with resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance by Officer Jeffrey Keyser on the 500 block of Prison Alley, July 28 at 6:49 p.m.

When the officer attempted to arrest Mr. Coleman on a warrant, he allegedly resisted arrest by fleeing. The officer chased him down on foot and physically restrained him. Mr. Coleman allegedly had a quantity of crack cocaine in his possession at the time. He was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and sent to jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or bond.

*Gregory D. Tamplin, 42, of Hamlin was charged with having a controlled substance in a non-original container, criminal possession of a controlled substance, going through a red light, driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test, not wearing a seatbelt, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation (10 or more suspensions), driving without a driver’s license or permit and third degree criminal tampering by Officer Mishanda Franklin at 41 North Second Street, July 30 at 3:19 a.m.

During a traffic stop for red light and seatbelt violations, Mr. Tamplin was found to be driving without a license, which had been suspended 10 or more times. He was also allegedly intoxicated, would not submit to a breath test and allegedly had Percocet, outside of a prescription container.

While being processed at the police station, he allegedly urinated in a garbage can, which temporarily placed it out of service until an officer could decontaminate it.

Mr. Tamplin was arraigned before Judge Mark Portin and sent to the county jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

*Joseph J. Mazal, 27, of Athens was charged with having a controlled substance in a non-original container, criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument, failure to obey a police officer, failure to stop at stop sign, driving while ability impaired by drugs, refusal to take breath test, reckless driving and second degree aggravated unlicensed operation by Officer Shane Bower, August 7 at 4:27 p.m.

Officers went to investigate a report about someone driving recklessly on the 600 block of Warren Street. Bike officers found the vehicle and driver, but when they attempted to pull him over, he allegedly refused. He was eventually stopped at 39 West Court Street with assistance of other patrol officers. Mr. Mazal allegedly had drug paraphernalia used for injecting heroin and was allegedly under the influence of drugs following field sobriety tests. He also allegedly possessed a needle associated with heroin use and a pill which was identified as Alprazolam, a controlled substance.

Arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Mazal was jailed in lieu of $750 cash bail or $1,500 bond.

*Mary D. Keegan, 47, of Hudson was charged with driving while intoxicated, unsafe backing of vehicle and driving a motor vehicle on/across a sidewalk by Officer Jeffrey Keyser, August 8 at 3:01 a.m. She was pulled over after she was seen backing into a tree and then a parked vehicle on Columbia Street. Officers determined that she was under the influence of alcohol and she was taken to the police station, where she refused to submit to a chemical test. She was arraigned before Judge Richard Koweek and released.
