Flu shots available at health dept. clinics

HUDSON–The Columbia County Department of Health has received the seasonal flu vaccine and has scheduled community clinics for any Columbia County resident 19 years old and up who would like a flu shot.

Clinics are as follows:

*Tuesday, October 4, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Philmont Nutrition Site

*Wednesday, October 5, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Valatie Nutrition Site

3302 Williams Street

*Wednesday, October 12, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Roe Jan Nutrition Site Our Lady of Hope Church, Route 22, Copake Falls

*Wednesday, October 12, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Ancram Town Hall, 1416 County Route 7

*Tuesday, October 18, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Hudson Nutrition Site, Sons and Daughters of Italy, 27 Bridge Street, Greenport

*Wednesday October 19, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Ghent Town Hall, Route 66

*Saturday, October 22, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., seniors only, The Golden Gathering, Columbia-Greene Community College, Route 23, Greenport

The Health Department will accept the following insurance plans as long as they are the primary and not supplemental plans: Blue Shield Only (no Blue Cross), CDPHP, Medicare B, MVP and Senior Whole Health.

The department can bill Today’s Options or any Medicare advantage plan.

Individuals must bring their cards to the clinics for verification.

All others are expected to pay a $30 fee for the flu shot, cash or checks accepted, no debit or credit cards.

Children aged 6 months to 18 years of age will be offered the flu vaccine by appointment at the regularly scheduled immunization clinic every Tuesday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the health department, 325 Columbia Street, first floor. An evening immunization clinic by appointment is also available on the third Wednesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m.

Pneumonia Vaccine will also be available at the community clinics to individuals 65 or older. The previous mentioned insurances will be accepted for pneumonia shots. All others are expected to pay a $65 fee.

People should talk to their doctor before getting the flu shot if they ever had a serious allergic reaction to eggs or to a previous flu shot, or have a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
