Norman Duncan, 85, Navy man, sold and serviced sewing machines
GHENT—Norman A. Duncan, 85, a long-time resident of Canaan died Saturday, November 5 peacefully with family at his side at Whittier Nursing Home.
Born July 19, 1925 in New Milford, CT, he was the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Peet) Duncan.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943 to 1946 and attaining the rank of pharmacist’s mate third class.
He moved from New Milford, CT to Canaan in 1962. For 10 years, he lived in Florida and came back to this area a year ago.
For many years, Mr. Duncan was in the sewing machine sales and service for other companies, as well as, his own. He was past commander of the Canaan VFW.
He was predeceased by his wife, Blanche Duncan in 1995. Mr. Duncan is survived by: three daughters, Karen Lappi of Altoona, FL, Debra Duncan of Fort Meyers, FL and Cheryl Dunton of Canaan; a brother, George Peet and sister, Beatrice Smith both of New Milford, CT; grandchildren, Jamie and Chrissy Dunton, Duncan Metts and Mahala Loring; also many nieces and nephews.
A gathering for family and friends will take place, Friday, November 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wenk Funeral Home, Chatham. Inurnment will be in the Flatbrook Cemetery with military honors. To send on-line condolences visit wenkfuneralhome.com.
Doris Hapeman, 82, mother, grandmother
RHINEBECK—Doris H. Hapeman, 82 , of Livingston, formerly of Tivoli, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at The Thompson House.
Born February 4, 1929 in Clermont, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Lillian (Burger) Pulver.
Surviving are: three sons, Charles of Rhinebeck, James of Hillsdale and William of Livingston; seven daughters, Diane Gelormino of Baldwinsville, Barbara Marano of CT, Janice Petrick of Poughkeepsie, Susan Egan of Red Hook, Cindy Rose of Poughkeepsie and Roberta Hapeman of Livingston; sisters, June Birmingham of VA and Sherri Brady of FL; 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, who died August 24, 2001; daughter, Darla Hart and a sister, Gerry Fingar.
A memorial funeral service took place Saturday, November 5 at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, Germantown, with the Reverend Mark Frickey officiating.
Dana DeLair, 41, welder, liked motorcycles
GHENT—Dana A. DeLair, 41, of Stottville died Saturday, November 5, 2011 in a car accident on Route 9H.
Born in Ogdensburg, December 6, 1969, he was the son of Duane C. DeLair of Constableville and Linda (Snyder) Wilton of West Ghent.
Mr. DeLair was a welder at Atlantic Manufacturing in Hudson. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Greenport and enjoyed motorcycles, fireworks and his camp on Black Lake. He especially loved every minute of life.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his soulmate of 24 years, Lynn Marie Wolfe of Stottville; a daughter, Jordana Marie Delair of Hudson; a sister, Tanille DeLair of Florida; his paternal grandmother, Pauline Delair of Heuvelton; and his beloved dog, Caliber.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, November 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 100 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Moose Lodge. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.
Albert Parsons, 65, Vietnam vet, herdsman
ANCRAMDALE—Albert T. Parsons of Ancramdale passed away at his residence November 6, 2011 surrounded by his loving and devoted wife, family and close friends.
He was born May 1, 1946 in Sharon, CT, a son of the late Herbert William and Mazzio Maud (Porkins) Parsons.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.
For many years Mr. Parsons served as a herdsman on the Rothvoss Farm in Ancramdale.
On September 28, 2002, he married Sandra L. Sutton of Hurley, who survives him at home. He was the father of Mark Hay of Millerton, Lydia Parsons of Hudson, Howard Parsons of Ancramdale, Jason Parsons of Ancram, Kelly Parsons of Hillsdale, Jeri Hay of Millerton, George Hoffman of Salisbury, CT, Sandra Williams of Ancram, Tina Hoffman of Copake and Brenda Mignamo of Thornhurst, PA. He also leaves 23 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings, Katherine Layton, Barbara Drumm and Donald Parsons.
He was predeceased by a son, Albert Parsons, Jr. and siblings, Julie Bonhotel, Sabina Puzinski, Herbert Parsons, Jr. and Carl Parsons.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
