Edith Ware, 74, certified nursing assistant

HUDSON—Edith Ware, 74, of Cairo passed away December 14, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

She was born October 8, 1937 in Mabey, WV to Denzel and Vernett Ware.

She is survived by her loving children, Dennis (Pat) Fielder of Buffalo, Cameron (Judy) Fielder of Greenport and Brenda Fielder of Cairo. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Cheryl Tell of Florida. She is survived by her loving brother, Clifford of Washington State and her loving sister, Dorothy Sandy of WV and was predeceased by her loving sister, Rosalee Helton of Washington State.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Heather, Shawna, Sarah, Travis, Katie, Joey and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be private at the request of the family.

Ms. Ware worked as a certified nursing assistant for Corizon Healthcare at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility for many years. She will be deeply missed.

A celebration to honor the life of Ms. Ware will be held January 7, 2012, 2 to 6 p.m. at Providence Hall, Hudson. Family and friends are all welcome to share in the celebration.

Arrangements are under the direction M. Grimaldi Funeral Home.

Daniel Barrett, 51, school business manager, firemen

CLAVERACK—Faith, family, friends, hope, harmony, home, live, laugh, love: these virtues are a true testament to the way in which Daniel P. Barrett lived his life. Mr. Barrett died suddenly, Sunday, January 1, 2012.

He was born March 27, 1960 in Cornwall, the son of Maree and the late John A. Barrett, Sr.

He moved to Claverack with his family in 1967. He graduated from Hudson High School and attended college at Columbia-Greene Community College and Siena College.

Since 1985, Mr. Barrett was the business manager of the Hudson City School District and was considered the “school historian” as a result of his many years of devoted service to the district, its staff and students.

Mr. Barrett was also an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson, where he and his family attended Mass regularly. His strong personal faith and belief in God was the core of his life which extended to all those that he loved so much.

Mr. Barrett was an avid sports enthusiast. As a young man, he enjoyed playing ice hockey and football. He played on the Hudson High Blue Hawks and the Tri County Vikings football teams.

He and his wife Cathy enjoyed many years watching and traveling with their four sons as they played ice hockey throughout New England for over 27 years. He and his sons made annual trips to watch the New York Rangers and the New York Giants—memories that will live in their hearts forever. The Barretts realized the importance of playing an active role in the lives of their children as the true essence of the meaning of “family”.

Mr. Barrett was an active member of the A.B. Shaw Fire Company, the Town of Claverack Board of Assessment Review, the Columbia County Selective Service Committee and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his mother, Maree Barrett Kirwan of Claverack; his wife, Catherine; sons, Jason and his wife Kelly of White Plains, Daniel, Jr., Stephen and Ryan; his brothers, John Barrett, Jr. of Warren, CT and Thomas Barrett of Glen Allen, VA; his sisters, Maree (Penny) Spampinato of Copake, Ruthanne Schaufler of Chapel Hill, NC, Elizabeth (Betsy) Cullen of Hudson and Kathleen (Kate) Jornov of Allentown PA; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and lifelong friends.

Calling hours will be held at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home in Hudson, Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Hudson, 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012.  Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the A.B. Shaw Fire Company, Claverack.

Beulah Crank, 95, counselor, gardener

HUDSON—Beulah L. Crank, 93, of Hudson, passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hudson, March 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche Crank.

She was a counselor at the New York State Training School for Girls before retiring. Ms. Crank was a member and senior sister of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board. She enjoyed gardening.

Ms. Crank is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Perry and Dorothy Cobbins and her brother, Morton Crank.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.
