Velma Logan, 90, homemaker, lifelong area resident

HUDSON—Velma M. Logan, nee Gleason, 90, passed away January 30, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born November 29, 1921 in Canaan, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Katherine Hinchey Gleason.

Mrs. Logan was educated at the Red Rock School. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Red Rock and Chatham.

She is survived by: sons, Edgar Logan Jr. of Chatham and Harry R. Logan (Kathy) of Ravena; daughter, Ada A. Diehl (Keith) of Climax; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Mrs. Logan was predeceased by her parents and husband, Edgar O. Logan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.

Edward Williams, 90, co-owned/operated farm

CHATHAM CENTER—Edward Williams, 90, of Goold Road, Chatham Center, died Monday, January 30, 2012 at his home.

Born in Kinderhook, November 28, 1921, he was the son of the late Philip and Theresa Williams.

Mr. Williams was the former co-owner and operator of the Williams Farm in Chatham Center.

He is survived by: his son, Edward Williams of Chatham Center; two grandchildren, Nathan and Elissa Williams; a nephew, Clifford Gillette and several other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha (Skinkle) Williams.

Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie. Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414 or the Tri-Village Fire Company.

Donald Blasko, 74, owned Turnpike Inn Tavern

SCHENECTADY—Donald “Don” Blasko, 74, of Ghent, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born March 24, 1937 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Hadranyi) Blasko.

After moving to Pennsylvania, he graduated from Stroudsburg High School and attended Mansfield State Teachers College in Mansfield, PA.

From a very young age he was an accomplished violinist performing both in larger venues, as well as, at numerous local church and community functions.

After college, Mr. Blasko moved back to New York City, where he worked for Citibank and the Daily News. In 1977, he and his wife Madelyn and their son Jeffrey relocated from the Bronx to Ghent, where they bought and still operate The Turnpike Inn. As a tavern-owner of 34 years, he crossed paths with many different people and whether he was having important discussions surrounding the issues of the day, telling jokes and being whimsical or playing his violin for friends and patrons, Mr. Blasko derived great enjoyment from the friendships that he made and he touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his wife, Mady of 38 years; their son, Jeff and his wife Kathy; grandson Jesse and numerous cousins.

Calling hours and funeral services were Sunday, January 28, at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti on Healy Boulevard, Greenport. Burial in the family plot followed at Beth El Cemetery Paramus, NJ.
