CHATHAM–With a break in the rain Monday afternoon the Hudson boys tennis team traveled to take on Chatham in a Patroon Conference match-up. The courts were slick and the winds gusty as the visiting Bluehawks scraped out a tough 4-3 victory over the home standing Panthers.
The top seeded singles battle was a fantastic back-and-forth match-up between Hudson’s Krystov Foot and Chatham’s Ryan Davis. Foot took the first set 6-2 looking like he might pull out an easy two-set sweep, but Davis would not go down lightly, taking the second set 6-2. In the third and final set Foot brought home a well deserved 6-3 win.
The second seeded singles match-up was also hotly contested, and again after three tough sets Hudson picked up the point. Bluehawk Jamie Stevens lost 6-2 to Lance Gerber in the first set, but then swept the next two 6-2, 6-0 to earn the point.
Jordan Sohotra easily topped Austin Klein 6-0, 6-0 in the third seeded singles match, and M.D. Debrath swept Chatham’s James Stinson 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth seeded match.
The only seeded singles match that Chatham won was the fourth seeded battle, as J.J. Ciampoli topped Nyeem Hossain 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 in the most hotly contest match of the day.
Chatham’s doubles teams made things interesting, posting a pair of wins. Adam Taylor and Jameson Connor of Chatham defeated Alejandro Miller Santos and Fardin Nabid 6-2, 6-3. The second seeded doubles team of Adam Brown and Grant Horn defeated Hudson’s Sharif Khan and Amit Debrath 6-2, 6-2.
