Gertrude Cross (1928 – 2012)

ALBANY—Gertrude Mae Cross, 83, of Maple Lane, Valatie died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Albany Memorial Hospital.

She was born, June 6, 1928 in Plattsburg, the daughter of the late John and Mae Beach. She was married to her husband, Henry E. Cross, June 15, 1948. She loved baking for her boys and was the world’s greatest homemaker and mom.

Besides her husband, she is survived by: three sons, Roger Cross (Mary) of Seattle, WA, Lyman Cross (Deborah) of Charlotte, NC, and Dale Cross (Ginny) of Valatie; six grandchildren, Nikki, Paul, Dale, Jr., Jennifer, Theresa and Shawna; eight great grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Brandon, Dalton, Baily, Noah, Kristopher and Hannah; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Amos, Richard and Clarence Osher, Francis Beach, John Beach, Jr. and Marie Russell.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22 at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie, with the Reverend John Molyn officiating.  Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, May 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie.

Marion Robbins (1920 – 2012)

PITTSFIELD, MA—Marion Koch Robbins, 92, of Westford, MA, died Saturday morning, May 19 at Berkshire Medical Center. She lived with her daughter in Canaan for the past five years.

Born in Elkton, MN, March 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Alma Jech Koch.

She was the loving wife of the late Donald A. Robbins, who died in 1988. Mrs. Robbins was a member of the First Congregational Church in Pittsfield.

After graduating from Michigan schools, she met her future husband, who was serving in the United States Navy. She was a resident of Westford and worked for more than 25 years as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, MA, retiring at the age of 87.

She loved to read, play scrabble and was a great supporter of the Salvation Army.

Survivors include: her daughter with whom she resided, Jeanette R. (Harold) O’Brien of Canaan; siblings, Mable Gailbraith and William Koch both of Michigan, Dorothy Bandy of Florida; grandchildren, Patrick Whitman, James Robbins, Jr., Dawn Mancuso, Dianne Constant, Karen Whitman, Matthew Robbins and Delos Whitman; along with 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, James F. Robbins; a great grandson, Tyler Mancuso and siblings, Elsie Harmson, Helen Johnson and Donald Koch.

According to Mrs. Robbins’ wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army, c/o Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown 12168.

Paul Roeben (1949 – 2012)

HUDSON—Paul L. Roeben, 62, of Hudson, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Catskill, July 29, 1949.

Mr. Roeben was a student in the Coxsackie-Athens School District and earned a GED certificate. He worked for the New York State Retirement Systems at the Alfred E. Smith Office Building in Albany.

He was a resident of the Firemen’s Home in Hudson at the time of his death.

He was a life member of the Coxsackie D.M. Hamilton Fire Company with 36 years of active service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Roeben was predeceased by his mother, Anna; father, Karl; and his brothers, Karl, Jr. and Thomas.

He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jane Zanchelli and her husband Dola of Athens and Irene of Palenville; three brothers, Robert and his wife Coleen of Las Vegas, NV, Joseph of Alexandria, VA, and Bruce of Albany; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Firemen’s Home Chapel in Hudson. His ashes will be placed in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery in Coxsackie.

Robert Scales, Sr. (1949 – 2012)

NIVERVILLE—Robert T. “Shorty” Scales, Sr., 62, of Niverville passed away comfortably and peacefully at his home, surrounded by his close family, Sunday, May 20, 2012.

He was born June 26, 1949 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late Charles J. and Anne (McCarthy) Scales.

Mr. Scales was a digital service supervisor for the New York Department of Taxation and Finance in Green Island. He is loved and will be missed greatly by all his friends and family.

He is survived by: his wife, Leah M. (Riley) Scales; a daughter, Stephanie A. Scales (Eric VanHoesen) of San Diego, CA; a son, Robert T. Scales, Jr. (Charlotte) of Santee, CA; a sister, Margaret Hurlbert of Dover Plains; a brother, Charles Scales of Hobe Sound, FL; two grandchildren, Robert Thomas Scales, lll, and Riley Ann Scales and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and William Scales.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
