Helen Sagendorph (1927 – 2012)

GHENT—Helen Sagendorph, 85, a lifelong Columbia County resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Whittier Skilled Nursing Center.

Born in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Emma Fleaman Miller and William Miller.

She was a resident of Hudson for 60 years and a life-member of Christ Church Episcopal, Hudson.  Mrs. Sagendorph was employed at Key Bank until her retirement in 1985. She also worked part-time for Dr. Henry Little prior to joining the staff at Key Bank.

Surviving are: her two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Carol Sagendorph of Greenport and Port St. Lucie, FL, and Gregg and Julie Sagendorph of Selkirk.

She was blessed with many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild: Gregg Sagendorph, Jr., and wife, MaryEllen of Delmar and their children, Tyler, Emily and Ashley; Cory Sagendorph and wife, Danielle of Selkirk and their children, Kimberly, Rebecca and Cody; Scott Sagendorph and wife, Jessica of Greenport and their son Cameron; Briana Tice and husband Jason of Slingerlands; Pamela DiStefano and husband, Peter of Catskill and their children Joseph and Caronia; Brenda Carver of Albany and her daughter, Christa Whitbeck and granddaughter, Paisley; Christopher Barrows and wife, Karin of Denver, CO, and their daughter, Marley Jane; Brenton McNeil of Rochester; Meredith Austin and husband, Bud of Valatie and their daughter, Emerson; Shanna McNeil of Albany and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Sagendorph was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Winfield Sagendorph; sisters, Margaret May and Emma Frederick and brother, William Miller.

Mrs. Sagendorph served on the Altar Guild at Christ Church for many years, as well as on many church committees. She was a member of the Hudson Elks Ladies Auxiliary, the Claverack Seniors, The Trippers Club and the Apple Valley Square Dance Group.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home.

The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30 at Christ Church Episcopal with interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sagendorph wanted donations in her memory to be made to Christ Church Episcopal, P.O. Box 411, Hudson 12534.

Anthony Cacchillo (1935 – 2012)

ALBANY—Anthony Columbo Cacchillo, 76, of Greenwich (Washington County) formerly of Corinth and Hudson, died Friday, July 27 at Albany Medical Center.

Born in Hudson, October 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Partemio and Luisa (Fiorillo) Cacchillo.

He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson and was a food service manager for A&P in Hunter/Tannersville and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include: one son, Anthony (Chris) Cacchillo of Watervliet; one daughter, Lynne Marie Cacchillo of CT; two sisters, Elizabeth Koskowski and Philomena VanDeCarr, both of Hudson; and two grandchildren Kiarra and Joshua Cacchillo.

A calling hour will begin Tuesday, July 31 at 11 a.m. followed by funeral services at noon with Fr. Winston Bath officiating at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Tristan Miles (2012 – 2012)

CRARYVILLE—Tristan Joseph Miles, “Lil Man”, spread his wings Tuesday July 24, 2012.

He was born March 13, 2012 to Brock A. Miles and Chelsea L. Tompkins.

Tristan was a beloved son, grandson, nephew and cousin.

He was predeceased by his poppy, Theodore J. Miles.

Private services will be held August 8, 2012 and a private interment will be held August 23, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, c/o Albany Medical Center, 43 New Scotland Avenue, Albany 12208 for the loving care and support extended to Tristan and family.

Monetary donations to assist with expenses may also be offered to the Miles Family, P.O. Box 322, Craryville 12521.

Jeremiah McAward (1932 – 2012)

W.TAGHKANIC—Jeremiah Patrick McAward of West Taghkanic passed on July 26, 2012, after a brief illness.

A retired private investigator, Mr. McAward, 80, is survived by his wife Valerie Hoffmann; children, Jeremiah Patrick McAward, Jr., of Weissport, PA, Mary Jeanne McAward of Sanibel, FL, James Gerard McAward of Blue Point; daughter-in-law, Kimberly McAward; two beloved grandchildren, Harry and Anne; former wife, Phyllis Rose Kelleher of Sanibel, FL; three siblings, Joan Watson of Pompton Lakes, NJ, James C. McAward of Arlington, VT, and Jack McAward of Cave Creek, AZ, as well as a large extended family and many dear friends.

Mr. McAward was raised in Bayside, and began his investigative career as a young soldier in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He founded McAward Associates, Inc. in New York City in 1966, and provided investigative services to a global clientele until his retirement in 2010.

Mr. McAward was a part-time resident in Columbia County’s West Taghkanic for more than 30 years, and moved there full-time upon his retirement.

An active participant in local politics, he was a 2011 Democratic candidate for Taghkanic Town Board.

Mr. McAward will be remembered at the Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, August 3, 2012 between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations to The Community Hospice Foundation, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer 12144 in memory of Jeremiah McAward.
