Hudson market opening delayed

HUDSON–The site plan for Filli’s Fresh Market at 449 Warren Street was approved by the Hudson Planning Commission over a month ago, on July 11. But the market will not open for another year, according to Damon Filli and to Tom Swope, executive director of the Galvan Initiatives Foundation (GIF).

Developer T. Eric Galloway of GIF owns the site, through his Lantern Organization. The Filli enterprise would lease the site.

Mr. Filli, 33, said in June that he wasn’t sure whether the market could keep to its original schedule of an October opening. Last week he said he wasn’t disappointed by the delay.

“In the grocery business, you try to be open 30 days before a holiday,” such as Thanksgiving, Easter or the Fourth of July, he said. With the new schedule, he had more time to comfortably make such a deadline. “It’s a big thing to open a grocery store,” he added. “We want to do it right.”

The plan is for the market to be open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., along with a “standalone” pizzeria open till 11 p.m., Mr. Filli said. That would require some 20 to 25 employees, most of them part time, he said.

That was all he would say. He referred other questions about the lease and the renovations to the Galvan Foundation. But Mr. Swope would say only that “the plan is to open in 2013 mid-year.”
