Four teens charged in gang assault

HUDSON–Three teenage boys were charged in connection with a gang-related assault, according to City Police.

Gerell Young, Jr., 16, of Hudson was charged with second degree robbery (causes physical injury) and second degree attempted gang assault by Officer Tracey Newkirk at the police station, July 27 at 11:50 p.m.

Gerell allegedly attempted to cause physical injury to the victim and was aided by several persons while forcibly stealing property from the victim.

He was held for arraignment.

A 15-year-old Hudson boy, not identified by police, was charged with second degree robbery (causes physical injury) and second degree attempted gang assault by Detective Christopher Filli at the police station, July 27 at 11:50 p.m.

The boy allegedly attempted to cause physical injury to the victim and was aided by several persons while forcibly stealing property from the victim.

He was released to outside agency.

Joshua J. Ortiz, 16, of Hudson was charged with fifth degree conspiracy by Officer Newkirk at the police station, July 28 at 2:08 a.m.

Joshua was allegedly involved with one or more persons in an attempted gang assault. He allegedly fled the scene of the crime with the alleged perpetrators. He was held for arraignment.

 

*Shane Michael Laurange, 22, of Hudson was charged with third degree rape, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest by Detective John Funk, Jr. at 718 Union Street, July 27 at 10:21 a.m.

Mr. Laurange was charged on a signed felony complaint after he allegedly had intercourse with a 15-year-old female at a Union Street residence, July 19. He then allegedly physically resisted police when they took him into custody.

Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Laurange was sent to jail without bail.

 

*Robert L. Booker, Jr., 48, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault (with intent to cause physical injury) and unlawful possession of marijuana by Officer James Nero at 48 Fairview Avenue, July 25 at 10:39 p.m.

Mr. Booker got into a dispute during which he allegedly struck the victim in the face causing physical injury. He was subsequently found to possess a bag containing marijuana. Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Booker was released pending a later court appearance.

 

Drugs/alcohol

The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:

 

*Edward Leonard Simmons, 53, of Hudson was charged with three counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance (cocaine-possession/selling) by Officer Kevin Sweet at 519 State Street, August 28 at 1 p.m.

Mr. Simmons was charged on a felony arrest warrant after he allegedly sold crack cocaine to an undercover police officer on three separate occasions in 2011. The investigation was conducted by the Hudson Police Department Detective Unit with assistance from the State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

Arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin, Mr. Simmons was jailed without bail.

 

*Earsel Napier, Jr., 21, of Hudson was charged with two counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance (dangerous drug-other/selling) by Officer Daniel Scali at 90 Green Street, August 29 at 2:48 p.m.

Mr. Napier was charged on a felony arrest warrant after he allegedly sold crack cocaine to an undercover police officer on two separate occasions in 2011. The investigation was conducted by the Hudson Police Department Detective Unit with assistance from the State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

Arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin, Mr. Napier was sent to jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
